I was going to write a diary about disloyalty and dysfunctional democrats, about greed and stupidity, about lack of courage, and all hat jazz, but that is already being done.
So I wanted to write about being a citizen, and how actually easy it is to be an informed citizen, instead of a whining victim.
- Get up
- Brush teeth
- Raise Hell (politely)
Seriously, people, with some of the whining and complaining here, you would think that it would take all darn day to make phone calls, write a paper letter or send an email to a Congressperson or a Senator.
Seriously, it takes all of say, what- 20 minutes, max?
Here's what I did this morning:
- Woke up at 6.30 am. Brushed teeth and put on workout clothes.
- Did a really vigourous workout at the gym, including weights and a sweat in the sauna.
- Returned home at 8.15 and ate breakfast and had a strong coffee.
- Emailed Senators Wyden and Merkeley and Congressman Wu. Then I called their offices to register my opinion that if the opportunity arises to pass Senate H.R. bill 3950, to do so for the good of Oregon's citizens.
Here's what I wrote:
Dear Senator Merkley:
This is a quick note to let you know that you are appreciated and that your passion for Oregon's citizens is felt here. I also wanted to ask for your support for H.R. 3950 if it comes up to a vote for reconciliation. Please remember that many of us are paying for our own health care insurance and this bill will help in containing costs and providing better overall response and care from insurance companies.
Thank You,

- Got to work at 9.30 am on a project.
That's right- in my schedule for today, I managed to speak to all three offices that represent me, write a email letter and print off a paper letter with my ink signature on it and put it the mail.
How many of you read SlinkerWinks and NYCeve's requests for action, click recommend and then simply don't do it? How many of you complain about holding people's feet to the fire- and yet do not write letters to the editor, don't write their Senators, don't write their congresspeople and worst of all, don't call to talk to an aide for two minutes?
Don't tell me you don't have time- you do, or you would not be checking in at DKOS. And don't tell me you are tired- you have enough energy to check in at DKOS. You are not too tired to brush your teeth, or bathe. You should not be too tired to do your civic duty.
Call and write a paper letter TODAY.
