I sent this to the Nashville Tennessean but doubt if it will be published
The Supreme Court ruling declaring restrictions on corporate campaign contributions unconstitutional is a tremendous threat to American democracy.
Over the past 30 years, our government systematically removed many of the restrictions which limited business practices. Corporations took advantage of this by getting into all sorts of previously forbidden practices, which enriched them while spreading homelessness, unemployment and financial ruin to large numbers of people.
Now the Supreme Court has ordered our government to remove limits on corporate donations to elections. The result is easy to predict - the rapid concentration of political power in the hands of the very people who enriched themselves at our expense.
Corporations are not people, and unfettered corporate rights are the enemy of human rights.
Removing rational restrictions on corporate activity has destroyed our prosperity. We must not let it destroy our democracy.
