Ariana, you should not validate teabaggers by saying things like, "Their movement is based on a valid concern..."
Because really, their movement seems to be based on fear of a black president and led by long-standing GOP operatives. It would be appropriate to say that they had a valid concern if they reasonably articulated that the middle class is shrinking and inequity is growing. But that is not what they are saying.
They are saying Obama is the anti-christ, that he was not born in America, and that he is a socialist. Those things are NOT the same as "the middle class is shrinking," and when you suggest that they do have a point beyond misplaced xenophobia and raging ignorance, then you do rational humanity a disservice.
It also ignores the utter and complete absurdity that these people are protesting a democrat for the greed and lassitude of 8 years of republican leadership. THEY did this to us, not democrats. Republicans had their eight, uninformed years in the sun and look where the fuck it got us.
Until you start pointing that fact out, you are not helping us get our country back on track. So please, would everyone in the media stop pretending that a bunch of racist rednecks have any justifiable place in our discourse about the direction of the country?
