Fox Nation, the blog arm of Fox News, has posted a rather misleading article about the Senate cloture vote on Craig Becker, President Obama's National Labor Relations Board nominee. The article and my response below the fold
In a victory for American workers, the US Senate voted not to approve Craig Becker, President Obama's choice to serve on the National Labor Relations Board. A onetime attorney for SEIU, Becker has written favorably of government agencies forcing pro-union and jobs-killing policies such as card check into law.
As our economy struggles to emerge from a brutal recession, an imperious imposition of card check would send a message to business--that now is not the time to hire new workers.
Meanwhile, there is an online petition drive regarding the possibility that President Obama might still force Becker upon the NLRB.
Don't know where to begin on this one. First of all, any article that begins with "In a victory for American workers," is quite obviously fair and balanced - this is of course cemented by the words "jobs-killing" and "imperious imposition." Gotta love the impartiality oozing out of this one. Regardless of tone, the article just plain gets it wrong. The Senate did NOT vote not to approve Mr. Becker, the Senate voted not to vote. A cloture vote, as is so often pointed out her at DKos, is not the same as a vote on the issue. Even so, only 33 Senators voted no on cloture - effectively one-third of the Senate was too cowardly to allow this man's nomination to be decided by the entire body. Victory for the working man indeed...
