More than a month has passed since Illinois voters went to the polls on a frigid February 2 Primary Election. But it has only been in the last hour that the state finally completed its gubernatorial primary campaigns.
Democratic incumbent Pat Quinn now officially knows who his Republican opponent will be in the November General Election; State Senator Bill Brady of Dwonstate Bloomington. While Governor Quinn and the public knew that he had defeated State Comptroller Dan Hynes in the Democratic Primary (albeit by just 8,372 votes out of more than 900,000 Democratic votes cast), that total was a landslide in comparison to the 193-vote margin that separated Brady from his fellow State Senator Kirk Dillard (of west suburban DuPage County).
To his credit (I suppose), Dillard conceeded the race shortly after the Illinois State Board of elections formally proclaimed the results, rather than seek an expensive recount. So while Dillard returns to his seat in the Illinois Senate, the time has come to focus attention on why Kossacks must destroy the campaign of Senator Brady and his 27-year-old running mate, Jason Plummer. An explaination follows below the fold.
The final official total giving Brady his 0.02% victory over Dillard and five other candidates (winning just over 20% of the Republican vote) did not vary much from the figures that had been available on the morning after the primary. So I suppose that is a testiment of sorts to the voting systems in use here in Illinois.
But during the month that Brady was merely the GOP presumptive nominee, he kept a busy profile behind the scenes, in an effort to scrub his image as a darling of the right-wing nutjobs. The most blatant example of this is probably his removal of his name from proposed legislation that would have allowed the mass killing of cats and dogs in gas chambers!
On fiscal issues, brady apparently is still deluding himself into beliving that the state's $12-13 billion deficit can be balanced, merely by cutting state spending across the board by 10% or more. Evne conservative newspapers in this state now realize that Illinois will have to raise taxes to avoid financial disaster. Bill Brady is either deluding himself, lying to the people of this state, or is out of his mind. Take your pick.
So if you want to protect the dogs and pooties of Illinois (just in case Brady pulls a flip-flop once in office), you might want to go over to the campaign website for Governor Pat Quinn:http://www.quinnforillinois.com/
