Good evening, WHEEbles! This is NOT the weekly installment of "Let's Read a WHEE Book Together!" After the jump, you will NOT find another scintillating chapter review of Brian Wansink's book, Mindless Eating. No, all you'll find is an Open Thread - AFTER the obligatory introduction to WHEE, of course:
WHEE (Weight, Health, Eating and Exercise) is a community support diary for Kossacks who are currently or planning to start losing, gaining or maintaining their weight through diet and exercise or fitness. Any supportive comments, suggestions or positive distractions are appreciated. If you are working on your weight or fitness, please -- join us! You can also click the WHEE tag to view all diary posts.
As I posted on Wednesday, I've worked a lot of overtime this week. I've been back to a normal schedule for a couple of days, but I'm still tired from the week. I'd hoped to recover in time to write a review of Wansink's Mindless Eating, but it's already 7:00 PM here and I have to be up early for work tomorrow. I apologize, but I'm going to make this another Open Thread, and get back to my reviews next week. Look for another chapter of Gina Kolata's Rethinking Thin next Wednesday, and the continuation of Wansink's book next Saturday.
One thing I have managed to do (besides work) this past week is get some exercise, in the form of a daily bicycle commute the past three days. The temperature is warm enough to ride to work most mornings, and while it takes longer than driving to work, it's a lot less time than taking the buses.
When I started commuting to work in April last year, I weighed 50 pounds more than I do now. As most of you know, I lost the fat by regular bike rides through the summer, along with watching what I ate and monitoring calorie burn with the help of a bodybugg. There are two short hills on the way to work, and one longer one on the way home. Going up those hills when I weighed more than 200 pounds was hard work. Now it's pretty much routine - unless I'm feeling good, like riding home this afternoon with the temperature around 70 degrees. Then it's fun. It definitely helps make keeping my weight down worth it - I do NOT want to balloon back up over 200 again, if I'm going to continue riding to work over Austin's hills.
What are you determined to do for your health over the next, say, two weeks?
