My 40th college reunion is coming up. I hadn't planned to go, but after writing the note below as part of my note for the web page, I'm considering it.
I got a bit carried away writing the paragraph below, and considered toning it down. After all, "I'll see you in hell, and that'll be soon enough," is a bit heavy for college reunion news. But decided to leave it as it was.
Here's what I wrote
Just tonight (March 25, 2010) Congress put the finishing touches on the health care reform bill. I'm more optimistic about the future of medicine than I've been in years. What Obama, Reid, Pelosi, and the Congressional Democrats came up with can't be called better than a work in progress, but that's still a big improvement. What we had before brings the Titanic to mind, except I can't think of any plutocrats who got filthy, blood-on-their-hands rich over the sinking of the Titanic. If we have any executives from Aetna, WellPoint, Assurant, Humana, and most of the other big health 'insurance' companies in our class, or any current Republican Senators or Representatives, yes, I'm talking about you, pointing a finger, and don't try to shake my hand at the reunion. I'll see you in hell, and that'll be soon enough.
Most of my life my mouth has been my biggest luxury. It just now occurred to me to wonder what 'biggest' means. It may be my most expensive luxury, in terms of money I might have made if I'd kept it buttoned up more. But I doubt it's been that expensive. It may have cost me friends, but how valuable is a friend whom you can't tell exactly what you think? One thing I'm pretty sure of is that my 'biggest' luxury is the one that's most important to me.
I suppose that's one thing I like about this web site. I can hear from a lot of people who feel the same.
