What about my voice?!!!
Am I being heard?!!!
I am sick and tired of people on the right yelling that they are not being listened to...
jump...
What about me?!!!
I have a voice too!
However, i do not think it is only about me individually and what i need and want.
I know that I live in a community, in a family, in a country of millions that has diverse opinions, values, religious and political views.
I know that this country is not easy to lead and that there is a lot to be done to move us into the 21st century.
Many Presidents and congresses before now 'kicked the can down the road' leaving this President to deal with decades of mismanagement and a fiscal mess.
I feel empathy for President Obama. He has a tough road to plow through in order to straighten out all of this stuff.
Is there anyone else you see that would do a better job right now?
If we get disillusioned and withold our votes in Novemeber out of anger will the republicans help to move the ball forward?
Will all the democrats move in sync and trust this President and his vision?
I do not think so.
So, what about my voice?
I know my voice is not included in the polls disapproving of the President's job so far.
I have never been polled. Never been asked a question. Never been called.
I know there are many like me out there.
We are silent but we will vote in November.
We do not agree with everything the President says or does but we are willing to give him a chance even as we constructively criticize him in areas we see fit.
But we are not loud and strong and bombastic.
I do not follow this President blindly. I ask questions and I read diverse oppinions and listen to diverse views.
However, so far I do feel that this President is the right person to lead in this difficult time.
I do not understand all the complexities of drilling for domestic oil, of healthcare, of energy and climate policy, of education, or of economic policy but I see a President who can communicate and help me understand all of these issues.
I see a President who is engaged and willing to make hard and politically tough decisions even when people like me in his base disagree with him.
I see a President who is willing to let his poll numbers fall in order to fight for a policy he deeply believes in.
I am glad that the progressive community spoke out and helped shape the Healthcare bill even when they did not get all they wanted.
I am glad that progressives continue to push for they ideas and fight to have them included.
And I am glad we have a President who is willing to lead and take the lumps and the thumps that we all give him day in and day out.
However, I take issue with those on the right in the minority who think that they are the only ones who should be listened to. I take issue with those on the right in the minority who feel that all of their ideas should be taken verbatim and implemented without any pushback. I take issue with them assuming that this President is a whimp and a pushover.
So with my voice I say BACK THE HELL OFF AND LET THE MAN DO HIS JOB!!!!
You did not vote for him and you do not own him.
My family voted for him and we know he will not do all that we say. So what makes you think he will do all that you say when you did not lift a finger to get him in office.
Nevertheless, even though you did not vote for him he is still magnanimous and tries to hear what you have to say.
He listens to your voice like any mature and responsible leader should.
That's more than your President George W. Bush did for us.
He disrespected us on the left and disregarded our voices and what did we get?
Two wars, a megaass financial crisis and a country that is so damaged psychologically as a collective that we are still behaving as if George Bush-the-abuser-in-chief is still in charge. We do not see our new President for who he is: a thoughtful, caring, intelligent, optimistic and pragmatic individual who intends to lead all of us into the new century even if he has to drag us screaming and hollering over the finish line.
Apparently our President is not one who intends to tell us what we want to hear but he intends to tell us what we need to hear.
So thanx for letting me use my voice in this piece and have a good day.
