This is another one of these distraction diaries. In this episode we visit our closest neighbor here on Oahu, twenty five miles across the Kaiwi Channel to the Friendly Isle, Molokai.
Molokai Dawn
Molokai (or Moloka'i) is a very laid back place that has successfully resisted the rampant tourism that has forever altered Maui and the Big Island. There are no traffic lights and no large resort hotels.
Kaunakakai Morning
Kalaupapa from Kalaupapa Lookout
Of course Molokai is best known for the former forced-settlement colony for sufferers of Hansen's disease on Kalaupapa peninsula on the isolated north coast.

Goat Skull
All mammals in Hawai'i are introduced species. Molokai has the usual goats, pigs, mongooses, rats, feral cats as well as the more exotic axis deer and blackbuck antelope introduced from Asia.
A Strong Hawai'ian Face
This young local man was one of our dive guides.
East Molokai Sunrise
Green Turtle
Bengal Cat
A woman was walking this beautiful cat on a leash on our hotel grounds.
Papohaku Beach Sunset
At the west end of the island is one of the most beautiful beaches in Hawai'i.

Papohaku Beach Sunset
I am sorry but I have few words tonight. I stayed up way too late last night doing the chronic obsessive photo processing after getting home in the early evening. I have not had enough sleep and it's hard to write. I hope you don't mind if I just offer up the photos.
