We have been here before - must we go again?
In the June 2008 issue of Vanity Fair there was an article titled When Democrats Go Post-Al.
"The vicious Clinton-versus-Obama rupture at Daily Kos, the most activist site in the liberal blogosphere, reflects a party-wide split".
...few have set a healthier example of consuming concern trolls for breakfast than Markos. So the site that bears his name is not for the demure
...Republican supporters have tried to duplicate Daily Kos's prowess and bustle with copycat sites such as RedState but remain outgunned.
Where am I going with this and what does it have to do with blackwaterdog and his/her diaries? Well it looks like the 2008 storm is starting to brew all over again. Yesterday blackwaterdog posted a beautiful tribute to President Obama and signing of the new START Treaty titled "If only every day brought such news". A day of peace. It can be found here http://www.dailykos.com/... Almost from the start the comments turned sour. This has been going on of late but in this diary Meteor Blades stepped in to answer some of the questions but even that did not seem to satisfy the dissenters. Midway through the comments blackwaterdog responded that they will not be posting any further diaries due to the number of negative and personal comments of late. To me, this is a heartbreaker. Why should a few dissenters dictate?
A little later in the evening wmtriallawyer posted a diary Change the Channel found here: http://www.dailykos.com/... The point of this diary was to highlight the fact that all people on this site do not agree on everything. Some love the Pootie & Woozle diaries while others think they are a waste of time and space. While the blackwaterdog diaries may not follow the 'new rules' to a 'T', I consider the diary a photo essay. In this instance, the photos say more than paragraph after paragraph of words. Love in a lenses. wmtriallawyer's point was if you do not like a particular type of diary or diarist, don't go into their diary especially if it is only to make derogatory comments and spoil it for those that do enjoy it.
We have been through the Kossacks in Exile.
Markos himself acknowledged and accepted this mutiny within the ranks with an indulgent shrug, noting that technically what was being undertaken was not a strike but a boycott. "But whatever they call it, I think it's great" he told Jake Tapper of ABC News. "It's a big Internet, so I hope they find what they're looking for." A gracious gesture that served as a classic setup for a ruder kiss-off when, formally addressing the issue at Daily Kos, he bid the boycotters good-bye and good riddance:.........
Al Giordano was quoted in the Vanity Fair article from one of his postings:
A well cultivated blog - just like any social garden, as Quentin Crisp liked to say - eventually has to be weeded from time to time, and that's the long and the short of what happened over at DKos, which in the few days since a small group took its game board and left in a huff, has been a much more interesting a creative place without them.
I can not write articulately like some here. I come to this site for the news and views of the day. But, there are days when a blackwaterdog photo diary or a Pootie diary is just what it takes to put a smile on my face and remember why we all struggle to make our world a little better place to live in. I do not know how this will end but please, we are not children. We expect others to respect us so why can we not expect it of ourselves?
The whole point of this diary is to demonstrate to blackwaterdog that those of us who enjoy the photo essays would like them to continue - those who do not like them but still think that they should be available to those that do OR should the diaries cease.
UPDATE - the first time I have ever made the rec list. Thanks I wanted this so badly, not for myself but for blackwaterdog and all those that take the time to post.
