I’m starting to believe that maybe the Tea Baggers got it right. Maybe we have to reject all of the incumbents, kick out all their asses and start from scratch. I’m not siding with their ridiculous theories at all, I don’t believe in Glen Beck or anything like that, but when I see what’s been going on, even with Obama in office, all I can do is despair.
My primary source of despair comes from how much the Corporations have an iron fist over everything that happens in this country. This current debacle in the Gulf is a perfect illustration. We have BP, Halliburton and Transocean doing the denial dance and we all know they’re gonna get away with it. And think of the details of this transaction that America is involved with. BP is a British company that is drilling off the U.S. coast that will sell that petroleum on the world market. So the United States gets none of the oil that is taken from its shores. Halliburton is an American company that is no longer an American company, solely because they changed their headquarters so they don’t have to pay any taxes here in Cheney’s America. Transocean is incorporated in the Cayman Islands. So we get no revenue in any way from any of these companies, and we don’t even get to keep our own oil. But we get fucked. Our Fishermen get fucked, our Shores get fucked, and our tourists get fucked. The list of people getting fucked by this debacle goes on and on.
If you watch Keith or Rachel you’ll see that at least 30% of the commercials are for BP(Beyond Petroleum my ass) or other energy companies. Like "America’s New Natural Gas." All you have to do is watch a few of these commercials to figure it’s nothing but propaganda. All they’re trying to do is ingratiate themselves into our collective consciousness, make us think that they’re fighting to expand wind power and other bullshit. Or repeat that "Citizens for Clean Coal Power" is actually a grass roots organization that is trying so hard to do the responsible thing...blah blah blah blah blah.... None of us believe it but it does reinforce the tea baggers sense of self righteousness. I’m sure they believe that there is an actual group of people out there who have banded together because they believe in clean coal, not that this is a lobbying group.
Then there’s the Bank bailout. They fuck up so badly that the People have to pay to save them. Nobody’s helping me with my mortgage though, and the bank isn’t nearly as understanding when I tell them I need a little extra time. And our Government has let them charge me 29.9% interest on my credit card. Even their beloved Jesus Christ would call that theft. But they’re continuing to allow these people to rape the average Joe without consequence.
Lately the Supreme Court has said that corporations can spend all the money they want on "Free Speech" with regards to getting sympathetic Politicians elected. This seems like the last straw in giving Big Corporations the keys to the United States. Now they can funnel unlimited money into the campaigns of morons like Rand Paul. Now BP can spend more money on getting their own flunkies elected than they would on cleaning up the mess they’ve created in the Gulf.
The so called Health Insurance reform has actually managed to insure that the Insurance Companies get millions and millions of new customers. This bill has little real regulations that will help people, and will still leave millions uninsured. When it comes down to it this "victory" seems meaningless to me. If it falls short of regulating the insurance companies – the actual source of the problem - what good is it?
Then there’s the war in Afghanistan. The only thing they make there is heroin. It’s the most backwater place on the planet. We spend enough there to pay for health insurance for all people who don’t have it. What is that all about? Tell me again why we’re fighting in Afghanistan when all the real terrorists have moved to Pakistan anyway?
Don’t ask, don’t tell? A very simple repeal would have solved this question, but nooooo. Apparently that is way too simple.
And the list goes on. It seems to me that Obama is either working against us or he’s in league with the Corporate structure in most of these circumstances. Why doesn’t he take a principled stand for the common man? All of us would respect him more if he stood his ground and fought than if he accepted the lesser good. I would rather lose these fights and show up the Rethugs for what they are than win a fruitless victory. I don’t need meaningless Banking and Insurance reform. I don’t need word when it comes to the environment, I need action.
We have to take back out Government. Like the Tea Baggers say.
