In light of the BP Oil disaster - we can no longer allow environmental issues to be a 'secondary' campaign topic - especially when we find out that the oil spill may continue all summer.
DK Greenroots, a bloc of Environmental bloggers here at Daily Kos have started a candidate fundraiser page on Act Blue.
The goal is to replace global warming deniers (republicans) and also primary democrats who are too cozy with the fossil fuel industry.
Their first endorsement is Andrew Romanoff, candidate for US Senate whose opponent was part of the Conservadem group that has blocked climate legislation.
Mr.Romanoff's thanks to DK Greenroots and comment on BP Oil Spill
Mr. Romanoff is not some 'out of left field' candidate - he was the Speaker of the House in Colorado, he has consistently out polled all republican challengers, and has consistently out polled his opponent, and this past weekend beat his primary opponent by a whopping 60.4% to 39.6% at the State Assembly which is kind of a straw poll within the party - indicating his solid support among the base democratic voters.
The DK Greenroots community has an opportunity to support a candidate that will listen to the concerns voiced here, and to set a precedent for all candidates going forward - that Environmental voters will be listened to, not sidestepped, and certainly not ignored - as in the case of the current Senator in office in Colorado.
The Act blue DK Greenroots mission statement:
"Daily Kos Greenroots supports candidates who seek to pass legislation that is environmentally sound, especially in the area of renewable energy. If a Democrat in office becomes too beholden to the Fossil Fuel industry, we will support a primary Challenger and will seek to get the most environmentally friendly candidate when there is an open field of candidates. Special recognition is also given for legislators who respond to the DK Greenroots community for petitions or specific issue focused legislation related to Environmental Topics."
The statement on Mr. Romanoff:
At at time of worst Oil spill in US history, we need a people powered Grassroots candidate who will stand up to the Special interests in Washington.
Former Speaker and Senate Candidate Andrew Romanoff takes no corporate PAC money and is truly a Grassroots and people powered candidate.
His opponent, Michael Bennet is in the top 5 for contributions from Wall Street and takes PAC money from Oil,Coal and other dirty industries.
Not surprisingly, Bennet has written letters and voted for exemptions for dirty fossil fuels in any Climate Change legislation.
Can you chip in $5 to close the door on the polluting Corporate special interests in Washington?
It is important to support these candidates financially, as their opponents are often funded by fossil fuel special interest money.
Nominations are welcome as are donations to the candidates.

The primary for the Colorado Senate race is on August 10, but as it is a mail in ballot vote, the actual voting will start in late June when people get their ballots - time is of the essence.
almost forgot:
Candidate for Senate, Andrew Romanoff will be live blogging on Daily Kos today at 6pm EST 4pm Mountain. Also, I have found out that another candidate for Iowa Secretary of Agriculture, Francis Thicke, will also be liveblogging at approximately the same time.
