(From TWD)
Glenn Greenwald delivered the "Smackdown of the Day" this afternoon on former New York Governor Elliot Spizer, who filled in for Dylan Ratigan on his show today as host.
Spitzer, who is being talked about as grooming himself to possibly apart of CNN's 8 PM spot after Campbell Brown became the latest failure at that time slot, had his Israel apologist talking points pushed firmly back by Greenwald on the issue of whether the IDF was justified in its attack of Flotilla.
The intense discussion with Greenwald, where at times Spitzer tried to trap him with the usual questions of "Do you support Hamas since they are a terrorist group", came after 10 minutes of the one time Attorney General of the Empire State talking of how Isarel can protect itself from any damage with Ruth Wedgwood (who I met one time and is a nice lady but terribly wrong here) and former Benjamin Netanyahu lackey (Chief of Staff) George Birnbaum.
Greenwald made sure to point out how incongruous and perplexing it was for Spitzer to bring up how Egypt supported a blockade with Israel for Gaza by pointing out how Egypt gets a pretty hefty lum sum from the US as well.
Most importantly, the Salon legal writer made sure to point how much of a farce the whole "You give us the goods and we'll transport them to Gaza" story is to everyone who believes the IDF would transport all the humanitarian goods from the Flotilla ship towards Gaza with willing happy smiley faces. We all should have enough common sense, as well as knowledge, to know that the aid would never reached its targeted destination if it were placed into the hands of the IDF.
Here is the whole interview here folks.
What makes this interview so important to watch is that it features a perspective that isn't common place on Israel in American television.
The ugly nature of the Netanyahu's Administration preference to keep the Gaza blockade going on and claim that the blockade is "To make the people of Gaza go on a diet" is really disturbing. And you'll never here what Greenwald said in a regular discussion about Israel here on our sad cable television news stations. Instead, you'll get the usual cautious dribble of support that preceded no matter how heinous the crimes that transpired under Israel's watch are.
Because sometimes the truth, especially in regards to international news in the Middle East, can be too much for the networks to bare. And that was certainly the case with TV's potential next network man in Spitzer, when he had to deal with a completely honest broker like Greenwald is.
(From TWD, have a fine night/morning/afternoon, and thanks for reading as always.)
