This is so awesome! Republicans are terrified Orly Taitz could win the GOP primary for California Secretary of State today, and they are blaming her opponent Damon Dunn's "less-than-stellar campaign."
Here's Politico:
“It’d be a disaster for the Republican party,” says James Lacy, a conservative GOP operative in the state. “Can you imagine if [gubernatorial candidate] Meg Whitman and [candidate for Lt. Gov.] Abel Maldonado — both of whom might have a chance to win in November — had to run with Orly Taitz as secretary of state, who would make her cockamamie issues about Obama’s birth certificate problems at the forefront of her activities?”
“There is no Republican candidate for statewide office that would be willing to have her campaign with them,” says Adam Probolsky, a spokesman for the Orange County Republican Party.
But longtime California GOP strategist Allan Hoffenblum, who publishes the California Target Book, says a Taitz victory is entirely possible. “It will be a complete embarrassment if she wins, but these things can happen,” he said.
It's just delicious! Politico again:
“For professional Republicans right now, the main tactic in regards to Orly Taitz is prayer,” said Jack Pitney, a political science professor at Claremont McKenna College and a longtime observer of California politics.
“Down-ballot races in California can definitely take odd bounces. I would say Damon Dunn is the favorite, but I wouldn’t bet my next mortgage on it.”
Go Orly!
She is evidently very pleased with herself. Again per Politico, she's claiming to have won a straw poll of Tea Party leaders and is now comparing herself to Rand Paul. You go girl!
Also, TPM reports that she attended a Republican function along with Karl Rove.
Witness the mainstreaming of Orly Taitz?
The longtime Birther agitator and dentist who is now running for the GOP secretary of state nomination in California was a "special guest" of the Republican Jewish Coalition at the group's "annual summer bash" at the Beverly Hills Hilton Sunday. Also in attendance: GOP heavyweights Karl Rove, former Senator Norm Coleman, and California Senate candidates Chuck DeVore and Carly Fiorina.
Oh wait! They left out Jon Voigt! From Orly's (virus-ridden, don't go there) site:
UPDATE: YESTERDAY DR. TAITZ MET WITH 500 CA JEWISH REPUBLICANS AS A SPECIAL GUEST OF THE REPUBLICAN JEWISH COALITION SUMMER BASH. SPEAKERS INCLUDED CARL ROVE, CONG. MICHELLE BACHMANN, SENATOR NORM COLEMAN, SYNDICATED TALK SHOW HOST DENNIS PRAGER, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF RJC MATT BROOKS, ACTOR AND ACTIVIST JOHN VOIGHT.

Orly has had difficulty raising funds for her campaign (around $6000 from 21 donors), but she's had no trouble raising (ridiculous, of course) allegations against her opponent. Damon Dunn, for his part, has made every effort to ignore her. Which may or may not be working.
Orly's campaign slogan, as diaried earlier:
WHAT IS THE BOTTOM LINE: DO YOU WANT TO SEE OBAMA ON THE BALLOT IN 2012?

June 3, 2010
We have only 5 days left to June 8 Republican primary. what does it boil down to?
Do you want to see the name Barack Hussein Obama on CA ballot in 2012?
If you do, vote for Damon Dunn...
And from her campaign site:
As your Secretary of State, I will not just occupy the seat and collect salary as the incumbent has done, I will work tirelessly on your behalf to make certain that every citizen’s vote counts - just once and for sure - live voters only!
Oh please, please let her win! Let Politico's headline appear in every California newspaper Wednesday morning:
GOP bad dream: Birther on ticket
GO ORLY!
UPDATE Orly responds to the Politico article:
Myopic wheelers and dealers of our ruling elite did not learn their lesson. Now they are claiming that being a birther, questioning Obama’s legitimacy is racist and bad for the GOP. Bad move again. This issue has nothing to do with race. It has everything to do with fraud committed by Barack Hussein Obama...

My win will give GOP that umph, that electrifying force, that lightning rod, which will motivate people to vote. After all, according to Pew poll 85% of the voters believe that there is an issue with Obama’s original birth certificate, and they want to see the original.

Similarly, articles about my race were published by Huffington Post and Washington Post. Great, more left wing media is attacking me, more the Conservatives, Republicans and Tea Party Patriots are determined to vote for me.
I RLY Hope So.
