Orly Taitz went down in the Republican primary for Secretary of State in California last night, gaining only 25.7 percent of the vote. Her challenger, Damon Dunn, is a former NFL player who only voted for the first time a year ago.
Orly worried a lot of GOP operatives recently - they were afraid she might win and, put succinctly by a quote in Politico,
"It’d be a disaster for the Republican party," says James Lacy, a conservative GOP operative in the state.
Well, they don't have to worry about that. The California GOP may be crazy, but they apparently aren't crazy enough to elect ORLY.
Will this be the end of our favorite birther? Perhaps not, as the lawsuit-happy Taitz is suing her opponent for committing voter fraud.
While Dunn was speaking to the crowd, a worker for Taitz interrupted him and handed him what she said was a "summons to court."
The paper outlined a lawsuit filed by Taitz supporter Pamela Barnett that accused Dunn of being ineligible because he had asked Florida election officials in July 2009 to remove from his voting record his 1999 registration as a Democrat.
She's sure to keep the courtrooms in Orange County busy for several years to come.
Oh Orly, you may have lost, but we'll never forget you.
