A few days ago, I posted a diary about the lack of response the Jim Holbert for congress campaign had received from the Kentucky Democratic Party (KDP) and the DCCC. In that post, I said some things that require correcting, and I got many great responses, some defeatist in nature, regarding this congressional race in a district that is known to historically vote republican. Not only did I hear you, but Jim and the campaign manager read and heard your comments as well.
KDP is now behind Jim, this just happened over the past 48 hours.
You can read about Jim Holbert HERE, and HERE you can see his stances.

I was wrong, I apologize to my fellow Kossacks and to Jim's campaign. I thought we were in a financial situation far worse than we were. After reading the comments and thoughts of Kossacks in our area and abroad, the campaign will shortly be opening up an account here on the Kos, as some of you said he should.
After reading the comments, the campaign manager, Halyn Roth, requested this to be shared here, since they have to wait to post...
"The Jim Holbert campaign, in actuality, has raised (at this point) well over $7,000. If anyone would go to OpenSecrets or the FEC, you'd know this. Now, you're going to say "that's not a lot, either". Well, there are a couple of factors contributing to this:
1.) Jim Holbert is not a politician, has no wealthy 'contacts', nor does he know anyone in power. For that matter, neither do I.
2.) The 5th District of Kentucky is the 2nd poorest in the country, and most of the people with money are in the coal industry (which is not an industry that will support Jim's candidacy).
Now, what am I doing, as campaign manager, to make this a viable and serious campaign? I'm trying to convince people, such as yourselves, to take a chance, stop writing comments on a blog, and start writing a $10 or $25 check to the campaign. I'm doing all that I can to bring in money. Why won't you meet me half way?
Those of you who won't give this campaign a chance are acting just like the KDP & DCCC. There is no logic in not supporting a candidate just because he doesn't have much money. I supported Dennis Kucinich for President (I even sent him some money, what little I had), even though I knew for a fact he would not win. We're trying our best with what little resources we have. It has been proven that a well-financed Democrat in Kentucky's 5th District can be competitive, and we'd like to prove it again.

In Ky-05, many counties had between 40 to 60% turnout here in Kentucky's fifth district. See the Map of that HERE. Below is the district for comparison.
Donations and funds for republican Hal Rogers have fallen sharply, you can see that on Open Secrets HERE. On top of the turnout, the decline in support for Hal, and the wing-nuttery of Rand Paul on the GOP ticket here, I believe this race has a better chance than I have noticed others here believe.
But, I wanted to clarify and correct any mistakes I had made previously in describing the situation of our race here to you. My humble apologies.
