I am going to be brief here. And I can't even believe I will type this, but Joe Scarborough actually just said something smart. If a Republican was POTUS he'd already be fired. But Democrats have to treat the military in a different manner so Obama can't do it directly and it will take time.
I got a lot of pet peeves, but this is close to the top of the list. That as a liberal I can't be strong on the defense of our nation.
I am a military brat. First male in four generations that has not served. To steal a line from Raising Arizona, I find myself driving by military recruitment offices that are not on the way home.
I can't really even put into words how much it pains me that my fellow Americans are serving and dieing and I am just sitting in my house. But this shit just can't stand.
I often mention here my father is a Republican. Served at high levels within the DoD. Literally wrote the textbook on the use of air power when he was a professor at the Army War College. But I had no idea he was a Republican until he retired. He kept those views to himself. He served at the pleasure of the President. Sometimes that person wasn't a Republican.
Generally speaking I am the guy that says I don't want Obama to yell and scream. Well I kind of do now. This is just not acceptable at like a hundred different levels.
I like we have a kick ass military. I like that if needed we can pound another nation into the ground. That I just choose not to use force in as many instances as say Republicans doesn't mean I am weak. That I am not pro-military.
Instead I have always felt it made me strong on defense. If I am going to ask a fellow American to give their lives it better be for a good reason.
When you have one of the top military folks slamming the President. Biden. Well that dude needs to be shown the door in a very, very forceful manner.
UPDATE: Direct link to the PDF of the Rolling Stone article. I was kind of pissed when I wrote this and clearly in hindsight some background would have been helpful :)!
