On Countdown tonight, Keith O. quoted Sharron Angle's words regarding abortion of pregnancy brought about by rape/incest.
Angle: I think that two wrongs don't make a right. And I have been in the situation of counseling young girls, not 13 but 15, who have had very at risk, difficult pregnancies. And my counsel was to look for some alternatives, which they did. And they found that they had made what was really a lemon situation into lemonade.
( Quote found on Huffington Post.)
Keith went on to fearlessely condemn Angle's stance in no uncertain terms. I believe I heard the words cold, callous, sick. Hard to say, because I was crying so hard. I think that's what I heard. All I can say is THANK YOU Keith Olbermann. THANK YOU.
I wish I could shake Keith O's hand and thank him for bringing to light the cruelty of forcing a raped woman to carry the resulting pregnancy. Although there was no incest, the rest of it was me, 42 years ago. Been there, done that, got the tee shirt AND the mug. I am a survivor.
I am going to follow KO's example and say a few words of my own about this. I thank you, Keith O., for providing to me the leadership and courage to speak up.
Keith stopped quoting at the lemons...lemonade point. I wish to comment on the rest of her words, reproduced here:
Well one girl in particular moved in with the adoptive parents of her child, and they both were adopted. Both of them grew up, one graduated from high school, the other had parents that loved her and she also graduated from high school. And I'll tell you the little girl who was born from that very poor situation came to me when she was 13 and said 'I know what you did thank you for saving my life.' So it is meaningful to me to err on the side of life.
Lemons into lemonade. Sure, fine...unless it's YOUR soul being squeezed into a sugary drink for others to enjoy...for twenty or thirty years, or longer.
Adoptionists can no longer lock young women away into maternity reformatories, remorselessly subject them to random psychological attacks, label them as neurotic sex delinquents, allow them to labor alone, and then disappear their babies into a black hole called closed adoption. That all ended with Roe v. Wade.
These days they "counsel." They can call it what they want. The point is, they have a definite goal in mind. Live birth, regardless of cost to the young woman. And quite often, adoption - the very profitable icing on a most satisfying piece of self righteous, moralizing cake.
Never mind the physical, emotional, and psychological hazards inherent in forcing a very young woman to carry to term a pregnancy via rape. Never mind the potential sequelae to coerced adoption. Damn the torpedos, says Sharron. Full speed ahead.
I'm here to tell you something, Sharron. It's not lemonade when you're the one carrying a pregnancy via rape. Or when you're the one being targeted by "counselors."
It MAY be lemonade when you're on the receiving end of that sweet, sweet baby.
I wouldn't know.
This is what I do know: Sharron Angle does not speak for me. She does not speak for this survivor.
I can speak for myself without your help, Sharron.
This is what I have to say.
Forcing a woman to carry to term when she is pregnant via rape is NOTHING but bitter, bitter, bitter fruit.
And don't talk to me about adoption.
Update: EEEEK! Rec List! For our daughters' and our granddaughters' sakes, I thank you.
