Newsreaders or pundits for whom a poll is newsworthy regardless of its validity, professionalism and likely accuracy are not trying to inform but to manipulate!
I know, I know! Duh! But I was daydreaming about what it might look like if progressives had a push-polling organization to ask question to support our positions. I was wondering what sort of preliminary and pushing paragraphs might precede the prestidigitatorial points. I quickly thought of two:
The GOP has opposed this administration on health care reform and finance reform and issue after issue including, now, whether or not unemployment benefits should have been extended. The 2008 GOP supported extending benefits; the 2010 GOP does not. Each one of their actions, or, more telling, their inactions has had an immediate and adverse impact on the US economy.
If the economy fails to improve, will the GOP’s political fortunes be brightened?
Do you think the GOP is motivated by sincere concern about the US economy?
Is the GOP capable of enabling the economic decline of the US to enhance their political future?
During his administration, George W. Bush never included the cost of the GWOT (Iraq and Afghanistan) in his yearly budgets but funded those ‘wars’ using supplemental funding bills instead. This had the effect of artificially reducing the federal deficit but really increasing it.
Should wars be funded by supplemental bills or should their funds be counted in the US budget?
Is the GOP be sincere now about deficit reduction since they enabled the misleading budgetary actions then or do they have another, more nefarious intention?
Is the GOP capable of sabotaging the foreign policy or the economy of the US to enhance their political future?
This is all in fun! I don't believe the democratic party is helped by emulating the GOP in all of their dastardliness! We'll be better off trying to hold the media accountable for not holding people accountable!
