Seriously, this issue is so ridiculous it just shows how ignorant/intolerant most people really are. Yes it's an emotional issue SO WHAT.
Divorce is an emotional issue... Should the husband or the wife need to move out of state because it's an "emotional issue", does he/she has a right to build/buy a house in the same neighborhood as their former life partner, next to them they want to... it might not be tasteful but you should't be "crucified" 24x7 on national tv over your RIGHT to do what the law allows you to do.
The idea that religion determines our status in society is OFFENSIVE (I'm Roman Catholic btw). What happened to separation of church and state which the famous 1st Amendment to the US Constitution according to President Thomas Jefferson was supposed to create. The "wall of separation" as he referred to it.
Some people feared a Roman Catholic been elected President would change America for the worst, yet he took us, the United States of America and the world as a whole, to the moon.
Today it's a mosque, tomorrow it's a Plan Parenthood clinic, anything the MORAL PATROL led by "NEWT GINGRICH" (who collects wedding rings as a hobby) and "SARAH PALIN" (who can't even get her own daughter to practice ABSTINENCE). This are the people America must rely on and use as it's MORAL compass.
Gimme a freaking break !
I'm tired of the Media trying to sensationalize every single issue, RIGHTS and FREEDOMS are not up for a vote, period.
We as a society either have them or we don't they don't get to be SELECTIVELY applied and certainly not demagogued 24x7 by people in the media who will do or say anything for the sake of ratings and are not qualified to handle yet seek to create a constitutional debate via sound bites and false choices.
If we have to get rid of the 1st Amendment to please the GOP and their SEPARATIST agenda then that says a lot more about us than it does about them, just because a poll says 70% agree with something doesn't mean it will benefit us as a society.
If the US Constitution was based on a popularity contest blacks would still be slaves, women would still be treated as second class citizens and we would not be the "United" States of America, need I say more.
What people needs to remember on this issue that if you take away someones RIGHT to do something what guarantee do you have that YOUR RIGHTS will be protected... I'd tell you... but I need to check with the MORAL PATROL first to check that my FREEDOM OF SPEECH hasn't expired... last time I checked I had a few minutes left on my "Constituion Express" card.
