I implore you to take the damn gloves off.
I understand peripherally perhaps a minuscule portion of what you and your Administration must work with on a daily - indeed hourly - basis. Yet, I find myself daily mystified as to why in the face of such persistent intransigence on the part of your less than honorable counterparts -- those Republican members of the Senate and House and ostensible members of your own party (Nelson, Lincoln, et al) -- you seem to persist in praying that through some epiphany they will - against all demonstrable evidence and record - come to a bipartisan accord with any of your policy objectives. Getting to 60 means assuring enough pressure is slammed upon them to make voting against these necessary policies untenable. That simply hasn't happened with the gentlemanly conversations it appears you have been having.
With all due respect sir, you need to take the damn gloves off.
Not through cute analogies about putting the car in "D" for going forward or "R" for going in reverse, but rather a laundry list of how time after time they have worked against the potential solutions for our most intractable problems and to call them out for what the results have been. The real cost to Americans of their shameful behavior, the daily intolerable cost of their petulance. From Day One they have done this. Recite the list sir. Call them out sir, call them out in significantly more forceful language than you are accustomed to using. It will be difficult for you I realize, but these are difficult times. It is not undignified, nor is it un-Presidential if I may be so bold. Channel (God help us) President Reagan at that Wall. That is what we the true Democratic and Independent voters are yearning to hear from you.
Every day until November.
In a word sir, to hell with the Republicans and even more so the Benedict Arnold Nelsons. Those theoretical Democrats have proven in their lust for being power brokers that they are something worse than inconsistent allies - they are in fact enemies in this fight. You need to forget the "D" and realize they will never be there in the clutch. How many times do you have to be hit over the head with this very obvious and demonstrated fact. Don't appease them - isolate them. No meetings, no returned calls. Send a message - dare I say - the Chicago way.
The hemorrhaging of voter intensity is no mystery sir, it is a predictable result of people out here who fought and bled for you to get elected who now feel - and indeed see daily - the ceding of the field of battle time and time again through the erosion of strong policy objectives on the mantle of "bipartisan compromise" to get "something" passed. It is a false God to pray to sir. In its simplest terms as it ever was and ever shall be - Democrats want to govern and Republicans want to win. It is time to win again sir, or we will surely be less able to govern than we are now. Not by being mannerly or genteel, but as a street fighter.
Take off the damn gloves. Enough is enough.
I will resist the slanderous calls that this is all part of a longer jujitsu with a view towards 2012 - that if there is a takeover of the House by the Republicans their agenda will be writ large and you will then again (by the example of their actions and policy agenda in that position of power) be able to run against them thereby recharging the base for a renewed push for your next election. For now I will resist that meme. Prove them wrong sir, prove the cynics wrong. Fight now, not in 2011. Take the damn gloves off sir. There is no time to waste. Call them out, in the most uncompromising terms so there is no ambiguity.
And for all our sakes, no more demonizing of the "professional left" for we are your foot soldiers sir, not the PACS, not Big Labor, and certainly not Goldman or the Fortune 100. We are the ones who stayed up till 3 in the morning for days on end to help get you elected because we believed you and believed in you. Help us to believe again sir.
We are only waiting for the strength of your oratory to rise up more sharply and lean into the blade of their derision thereby blunting it.
We want to see this guy again:

If we lose this fight, in these perilous times, their agenda is quite clear. And this country will be destroyed for a generation, perhaps longer.
Thank you and good luck Sir. To all of us.
