My good friend Randy Parraz is running for the United States Senate in Arizona. He is in a close race for the Democratic Party’s nomination with the primary election next Tuesday, August 24, 2010. If he prevails (and the wind is now at his back), John McCain better watch out. Randy, the only Latino candidate for the US Senate in 2010 in the country, will mobilize voters across the State of Arizona who recognize that McCain is moving us backwards and that Randy Parraz represents the promise of our future.
But Randy needs our help between now and next Tuesday to ensure this will be a Parraz-McCain matchup. Randy’s primary opponent in the Democratic primary is a millionaire former Tuscon city councilmember who has tried to scare any challengers away with his money. He also has demonstrated that he will waver on his commitment to Democratic principles, saying in this past Monday’s final primary debate: “This is not about Republican ideas or Democratic ideas.”
Yes it is. And Randy will not waver. “This IS about Democratic ideas,” he responded. “We can organize around them. This about the heart and soul of who we are as a party. Brothers and sisters, we have to reclaim these Democratic ideas and principles. Those ideas are POWERFUL.”
Recent internal polling by the Parraz campaign shows that Randy is within three percentage points of upsetting the establishment’s frontrunner. Randy can win with our help. Go to his site now. Contribute. Volunteer. Spread the word.
Randy Parraz is the real deal. A longtime labor organizer and lawyer, he has a deep commitment to justice and social change. He has fought Maricopa County Sheriff Arpaio's abusive practices. He has organized strawberry workers in the fields. He has stood up against the outrageous and unconstitutional Arizona anti-immigrant law, long before it ever became law. He has the momentum and the statewide grassroots support. Randy Parraz is just what Arizona, what the United States Senate, and what the country needs.
I have the honor to call Randy my friend, to be the godfather to his oldest daughter Natalia, and to know him as the next United States Senator from Arizona.
Together, we can send Randy to the US Senate and send John McCain home.
