George W. Bush strategist Karl Rove and the three billionaires supporting his "non-profit" attack group just launched a new smear ad against me -- their third so far this election.
And you know what the hook was? They're trying to get people to oppose me because of the support people from all over Kentucky and America showed during our Conway Fight Fund moneybomb. They even singled out the DailyKos community as a target of their ad:
Rove’s American Crossroads group has spent over $500,000 attacking us, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has been attacking us, the NRSC has been attacking us, and even Sarah Palin came to town raise money for Rand Paul.
They're on record saying it's because they want to "put this race away early." But when you think about it, it fits in perfectly with Karl Rove's classic strategy: attack your opponents where they're strongest.
That's why Republicans attacked Senator John Kerry on his heroic war service in 2004, and that's why they're attacking me today: They know this race is one of Democrats' strongest. And that's also why they're attacking you: They know you are some of my strongest supporters.
It looks like we truly have them running scared
And all this is happening right at the end of our last public fundraising reporting period -- after September 30th, we'll put out a public fundraising report that Kentucky voters will use to measure our strength against Rand Paul's.
In this election, where enthusiasm is going to be crucial, it's absolutely essential we show the world our momentum by producing a strong report.
Please help us fight back by making a contribution of just $5 or more today, before the September 30th fundraising deadline.
I get why they're so anxious. The people of Kentucky know I've been fighting for them. I've fought the big oil companies, drug companies, and Wall Street banks. And we can win this.
Thanks for your help.
