This is the ad I wish the National Democratic councils would run.
Announcer: There is an important national election coming up.
Voice: But we don't vote for President for 2 more years.
Announcer: Even though this isn't a Presidential election year, it's every bit as important.
Voice: I voted for Obama, isn't that enough?
Announcer: If you support this president, support him this November 2nd by electing a congress that will help to get things done.
Voice: I think we're headed in the right direction. Why aren't we there yet?
Announcer: During the last two years, Republicans in Congress have blocked more bills, and more judges, than any other congress, ever. If you're tired of Government that doesn't get anything done, this is your chance to vote to put an end to the roadblocks.
Voice: O.K. When did you say that was?
(visual Calendar highlighting 11/2)
Announcer: Election day is always on the first Tuesday of November.
Voice: Oh yeah, that's right. It's November 2nd this year.
Announcer: We've only just begun to undo the disastrous policies that brought on this current economic mess. Let's not return to them. Vote Democrat on November 2nd.
I really believe that half the challenge is getting the disinterested voter to mark the date on their calendar. You have to remember that the average working person rarely thinks about politics during the weekly grind of work and family obligations.
The other half of the message is why. I think a positive message highlighting the reason why voters should turn up is the most effective.
