to prevent a lawsuit over his order to kill a US citizen from proceeding how many on this site would be, rightfully, calling for his impeachment?
It is hard to imagine a more egregious abuse of executive power than the insistence that the President can on his own decide when a US citizen should be killed. Add to that, the Administration's argument that the President's decision and basis for it is off limits to judicial review and must remain secret forever. Since when does preserving, protecting and defending the US Constitution empower a President to order the killing of US citizens and the power to prevent a court from looking into the matter at all?
The Constitution provides a means for handling people accused of treason, and it is not summary execution at the direction & discretion of the President. The Constitution provides for due process of law to protect the LIFE, liberty and property of US Citizens. The Constitution provides ample means for the Government to deal with suspects like the citizen currently being targeted by the Administration for summary execution. Need I add that the President is sworn to preserve, protect & defend that same Constitution?
This is the whole ballgame folks. The most basic of reasons for the founding of our nation. I am trying to think of anything Nixon did during Watergate that exceeded this assertion of executive power and I am coming up empty.
Now I know a GOP Congress will try to impeach Obama and the charges will be of the most ludicrous sort. In a sane world, progressives and civil libertarians ought to be calling for impeachment over the President's assertion and orders that he direct the killing of US citizen and it is the business of no court to review that decision.
What country do we live in? I no longer recgonize it. Anxious to see how some will defend the indefensible.
