Sometimes all you need as a reader is a voice to show you the way. For my English Language Learners, they often don't have someone who can read with them. With the right materials, they'll never lack a fluent reader to share a great story with.
My students are a diverse and energetic group of English Language Learners from around the world. They are anxious to learn to read, but face many challenges. We attend a Title I school where close to 90% of students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Most of my students do not speak English at home, which makes the support I provide in the classsroom all the more vital.

My Project: Imagine what it was like when you were first learning to read. Was your mom there reading along with you, helping you sound the words out correctly? Now imagine how tough learning to read would have been without someone reading along with you. With a variety of high interest books and corresponding CD's, my students will read along with buddies and the voice of an engaging, fluent reader. Soon they will not only develop a fluency, but also a love for reading!
Engaging students is one of the most challenging and crucial tasks of a teacher. Adding a listening library to my classroom will add an invaluable option to the array of other literacy centers in my classroom. Most importantly, it will make sure that none of my students have to read alone.
You can help right now by going to Donorschoose.org and making a donation to my project. Every donation no matter how large or small makes a difference.
