What began as an innocent letter to the editor of the San Francisco Chronicle ended with the letter writer receiving a nasty letter in the U. S. Mail from a disgruntled Republican. The LTE writer did what was best, he posted both the original LTE and the Rethug response on his Facebook page.
It is a sad day in America when a person quotes a former POTUS in an LTE and is personally rebuffed with a rant against, Obama, the unions and the oboe. This Republican operative actually found out the LTE writer's address and occupation.
The original LTE:
Whose wisdom?
Who do you think said the following, and when?
"As we view the achievements of aggregated capital, we discover the existence of trusts, combinations and monopolies, while the citizen is struggling far in the rear or is trampled to death beneath an iron heel. Corporations, which should be the carefully restrained creatures of the law and the servants of the people, are fast becoming the people's masters."
Try Grover Cleveland - in 1888.
Bennie Cottone, San Francisco
The Marin County Republican's letter. Mind you, this was sent directly to the LTE writer not to the San Francisco Chronicle. A scary thought. How and why did he get the address?
Mr. Cottone
I read your letter to the editor and must assume you agree with Grover Cleveland. Your letter is flawed at best and is the usual ranting of the far left and the have nots and the give me more for nothing crowd.
First of all the corporations hire most of the people of America. They pay a fair wage and most corporations are regulated by some government agency. What do you mean by "beneath an iron heel." This isn't 1917 Russia. You're free in America, free to be a corporate boss if you have the nerve and skill. Free to be a bum, free to be an Oboe player if you can't complete (sic) in the corporate real world.
Corporations in a great sense are the "servant of the people." They give them jobs, they do serve the people. They do serve themselves, true, but why not? They take the risks, they have the skills, they should be paid the lion's share. I see no workers for MicroSoft demanding the people take over the corporation. that's only Obama. I walk and work in downtown San Francisco and see no torches and pitch fork's demanding the death of their bosses. I see people working hard within the best economic system of the world to make an honest living.
But today the real iron boot is the unions. The greedy union. From the United Auto Workers to the California's teacher's union, to the SEIU. All have an iron boot on the average worker not in their unions. But enough. There are countries in the world that the corporations are "the people" - Cuba, North Korea, Vietnam and the old Soviet Union. All failed. Maybe you can take your oboe and relocate to a place that more fits you (sic) ideology. Just a thought.
Sincerely,
Robert A. Casper, SR (sic)
Who is this Robert A Casper, Sr.? A quick Google found this:
http://www.ibabuzz.com/...
Melanie Morgan— the conservative radio talk show host who chairs Move America Forward, the group which has led efforts to shame and boycott Berkeley for its anti-U.S. Marine Corps recruiting stand — has lost her job at KSFO 560 AM.

I was a member of the Marin Co Republican central committee and met you once. I am also a retired FBI agent and worked the Weathermen Case in NY especially Bill Ayres. The next time he visits a campus, and there is a question period have someone ask this question. “In 1972, did you and you wife as members of the Weathermen, bomb the Park Street Police station in SF killing a policeman?” The case was resurrected 3 years ago and I attended a meeting of investigators. The man who ran the meeting was Lt. Joel Harms, his partner was the cop that died in the explosion. His tel# 3 years ago was . . .(redacted) . . He has more information on the SF weathermen activities, I worked them in NY. Max Noel another FBI agent and Weathermen agent told me recently that in Ayres book, the Fugitive Days, he omits any mention of being in SF. We know for a fact they were in SF. Max seems to think, he wants to distance himself from this area since this is the only outstanding charge that could put him or Bernadine in jail for life. Good job, Melanie, keep up the good work.
This Robert A. Casper, Sr. clearly went out of his way to personally intimidate a LTE writer.
It's repressive and it bothers me.
