FEMA: ARE YOU READY?
We got a glimpse of what not being prepared for disaster is like from Katrina... we got another look at it with the Tsunami....We are getting still another look at it with Haiti...
It is a simple FACT that governments simply CANNOT react with enough speed to save everyone... Hell, the Haitian government is pretty much non-existent! Wiped out by the same disaster that has effected it's people.
Which is why individuals, families, neighborhoods....MUST be able to survive on their own for AT LEAST 2 days... I recommend at least a week...and perhaps even a month...
Look at Haiti... there is a lot of relief coming...but it cannot get into where it is needed... The airport is not big enough...and the port is toast...The roads for the most part impassable... Law and order has or is about to break down into violence... THIS is what happens when people are desperate...and yes, it CAN and HAS and WILL happen in America and Canada given a big enough emergency....
Take it from this old Emergency Manager... Assess your location for the potential of disaster(s) and then, figure out what you would need to survive for a month and get prepared... You never know when you may need it...
