Last week, in a tongue in cheek comment, I said: "On Fire Dog Lake, they're out making calls for [Brown]! they're out making calls for this guy! That's who THEy want to win..." I got responses like this: "That's either monumentally stupid or utterly....disingenuous."
Really? Is it?
Today on FDL we find this: "Progressives, please help defeat Coakley."
It is very important that progressives help defeat Coakley. Please read my explanation....I do not think that many progressive Democrats understand that putting such people as Coakley into power is worse than having a Republican in the seat.
And then there's this: "Should the Left Take Credit for Brown’s Victory on Tuesday?"
say we should. The ruling class has dispatched representatives from the power structure to Massachusetts to fire Barack Obama and the Democratic Party.
Of course, there's always Democratic self-flagellation: "A Viable Write-in Option in MA"
I’ve been thinking about who might be a good symbol for the disaffected left in MA and I thought Noam Chomsky might be a good one. Full disclosure: I have never read any of Chomsky’s work.
and this brilliance on party unity: "Take Your Sanctimony and Shove It"
I do, however, know that I would respect another citizen’s choice to vote for whomever they wished. Because, the last time I checked, this was still America, not the Soviet Republic of Democratistan. I’d rather a person vote Rush Limbaugh for President than cast a vote against their conscience.
and finally, Democratic suicide
"Why I will not be voting for Martha Coakley Tuesday"
Is the republican candidate worse. Yes. But, I can no longer support the lesser of the evils. When will the Democrats again represent a good choice and not just the less bad one?
It's not about marching lockstep with Obama or his program. it's not about approving every policy - it's about understanding that Obama - and the democrats - even at their worse, are a far better option for the American people. it's about understanding that party unity is essential for getting Obama the freedom of a second term - a term where he can show his progressive side with abandon. I'm so disappointed with my brethren on the left - not for their ideas - shit, I'm so progressive that I think it should be legal for gay cats to marry transgender dogs, but I've learned that we MUST STICK TOGETHER - it's the only way we can figure how to solve our problems without resorting to fragmentation and ultimate destruction...
PS - I know that there are many on FDL that are rooting for the left, but when you have prominant FDLers teaming up with the teabaggers and the racist right (and you know who I mean) - then all the rest is bullshit...
