I apologize for the short diary, but I just had to bring this to everyone's attention
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (Arkansas' only statewide newspaper) emailed me this morning and one of the top stories in the "Arkansas" section today was "Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert E. Lee’s Birthdays closings." For years some southerners have quietly joked about celebrating Robert E. Lee's birthday in place of the Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday, but this is the first time that I have seen a major news outlet put something like this is print. According to this rag, the Martin Luther King Jr. federal holiday is now officially also a holiday for celebrating the birth of Robert E. Lee.
Wow, just wow.
