You know, I'm really stoked that the next couple of days are going to be filled with loud, stupid, ignorant people on my television set, proclaiming that "the American people" just rejected Obama's socialist communist Stalinist tax-gouging orgy of liberaldom.
And I love how the pundits are going to eat it up, and repeat every single word.
Even better- the media narrative for Election 2010, starting now, starts with "Democrats in trouble". For the next 9 months straight.
David Gregory will ask EJ Dionne why America hates Obama on Meet the Press, and EJ Dionne will answer as if it's a serious question.
Every GOP official will proclaim how this means Obama is a failure, that America is rejecting Obama, and how we need to return to the golden age of prosperity we had under Bush.
And what's worse is that given America's short memory, a lot of the people that are being short changed by the Democrats' abject failure to enact the agenda they were elected on will eat it up, too.
Even better is that even though the GOP was controlling the political discourse in America before this happened, the pundits will now give them an even bigger platform for their bullshit, because as we will hear, ad nauseum for the next few days, this is clearly proof that America hates the Democrats.
Do you idiots in DC get it yet? You just lost the safest f***ing seat in the world to the new poster boy of America's nascent proto-fascist movement because you haven't been progressive enough.
If this isn't enough to convince the Democrats to pay more attention to their left flank, nothing will.
But that's a stupid thing to say, because we all know it won't. DC establishment "liberals" will undoubtedly take the wrong lesson away from this, just like they do every time, and we'll all get to watch it unfold on TV.
I hope all that gloating feels good when you hear it. I hope you get pissed off. I hope you get built into a towering rage. And I hope you use that rage for something.
Because we have a goddamned election to win this year, and if we lose this one, I'm not going to have any other choice than to start purposely crashing my bike into the crowds of morbidly obese mouth-breathing knuckle-dragging retards that crowd the sidewalk outside of the state capitol on my way to work every morning, wearing sequined American flag baseball caps and waving around stupid fucking signs about how everything wrong in their lives is Obama's fault. Because it's all I can do not to do that now, while there's still a remote hope that we can beat them at the polls.
Those people won one tonight. Do you understand that? The chosen candidate of the "Get a brain Moran!" crowd won. Can you even imagine how fucking unbearable those people are going to be tomorrow?
See, I wasn't a pessimist before 2008. I saw what we did in the run-up to that election. I paid attention to the agenda Obama ran and won on. I was extremely optimistic about the future of this country.
But then I watched the process unfold, and saw how little of that was actually going to be enacted.
And now, I'm watching that failure translate into losses at the polls. And if the DC establishment doesn't learn the right lesson from this, it's only going to get worse from here.
