okay, i'm a Brit and l know l don't have a say in your country but as an outsider who watched with pride and not little relief in the routing of the Republicans in the last two election cycles l have watched with first amazement, then disbelief, and finally dismay as the agenda the US people voted for gets pissed up the wall by the dumbest strategy l have seen in years from one political party.
Please excuse the language l am going to use but in my personal view it pretty much sums up the actions of the idiots who are running the show for the Democrats including the Senate, expecially Senate Majority "Leader" harry reid (who no longer deserves his name in capitals) who's actions for someone who made his bones taking on the Vegas mafia show all the signs of a lobster out of his shell.
After the election l watched with unease some of the decisions taken by people who seemed to think that the defeat of McCain and the implosion of the Republicans meant that they could just sit back on their laurels and relax, thinking the job done.
Throughout the entire clusterfuck that had been the "negotiations" over the summer over healthcare, the failure to close Gitmo, pushing back decisions on DADT and DOMA, the failure to come down hard on the banks and coming down hard on the workers in Detroit, and the waste of space that has been the Blue Dogs in the Senate l was just going to say that they were a bunch of spineless, useless, testicle deprived wankers. Yesterday's election result instead made me think of one small scene from my favourite tv show based on politics. THIS ONE
"If some c@%t can f$%k something up that c@$t will pick the WORST POSSIBLE TIME to f@$king f@$k it up, because that c$%t's a c@$t."
A message he had embroidered on a teatowel at home.
Very strong words but, if you look at the time wasted trying to make the Healthcare bill bi-partizan, the complete an utter negativity of te republicans and their sternographers in the "liberal" media, the actions of insurance whore Lieberman including the failure to strip this scumbag of hi leadership role, and the watering down of the bill by removing the public option and the use of reconcilliation to the extent that only the Insurance and Pharmacutial companies actually were happy with it l personally think the words should be stronger.
Add to this the ineptitude of those in charge of putting forward the democratic message.
Christ on a bike, THESE PEOPLE ARE REALLY, REALLY BAD AT THEIR JOBS!! In this l mean that these idiots would fail to get an alcoholic drunk at a free bar!!
For YEARS we have seen how the right wing media machine works, and during the election we had seen some sign of intelligence when the rapid responses to righ wing lies were confronted. Since then, starting with the attacks on Van Jones l have watched in complete disbelief as a series of completely useless media types have failed again and again to defend both the president and the democratic agenda from serious attacks.
It's not like this has to be done by two hours of nightly news on MSNBC and the left wing blogs alone. There are Democrats who go on the other networks so why no co-ordination with responses?
Where were the pundits who could go on TV, even Faux "news" and actually counteract the right wing talking points?
Why were people with brains not tapped, people who could remember the hypocritical actions of the republicans over the last eight years an be able to answer with examples to show where these guys were lying?
It's not like these people are just going on TV without knowing what the subject matter is. Add to that fact that there are websites DEDICATED TO EXPOSING RIGHT WING LIES.
We know that the right all sing from the same hymnsheet and we kno that when exposed they whine like little bitches and back down, so why the failure to look and learn from them?
Another very big mistake was dismantling the team which worked so hard to get President Obama elected. I'm sure that looking back now, however bad Deeds and Coakley's campaigns were, having that team there would have been more than useful, as would having candidates who were not just going to phone in their campaigns instead of doing some hard groundwork afte the primaries.
The democrats have some very hard work to do in the next six months or the midterms will be devestating, but one of the first things to do is find and fire the idiot who said this:
"Now everything that gets done in the Senate will have the imprimatur of bipartisanship," another administration official said. "The benefits of that will accrue to the president and the Democratic Senate. It adds to the pressure on Republicans to participate in the process in a meaningful way, which so far they have refused to do."
What a complete and utter fuckwit.
You have just watched for a year as the oppositon has said "no" to everything you have done, sat back and done nothing while the president has been called every vile name unde the sun, you have dropped elements of bills you got elected on to garner support from republicans, and got no votes at all for your compromise and outreach and this ignorant pollyanna thinks that NOW, JUST AS THE REPUBLICANS HAVE A FILIBUSTER PROOF MINORITY, THEY ARE GOING TO PLAY NICE AND HELP PASS THE DEMOCRATIC AGENDA?!?!?!?!!??
This is the sort of problem you are facing.
Bill Maher said, (and got some blowback for it) that the president needs to channel some of his inner George Bush.
In my view the current "leadership" in the Senate under harry reid and DNC head Tim Kaine need to channel a lot more of their inner Howard Dean or even better their inner Alan Grayson because what they have right now is just on the wrong side of complete failure.
