Causality is the basic process of our universe. The state of the universe at one moment completely determines the state of the universe at the next moment. The causal chain of universal states stretches back into the past to at least the big bang, and reaches out indefinitely into the future. As a result, all that happens is predetermined by the causal past, and we human beings do not, therefore, have a free will. .
The entire Republican ideology is founded on the myth of free will. Republicans say some people deserve more money because these people have earned it. They say some people deserve to be punished because they have earned it. According to this "free will" perspective, rich people deserve the best health care, everyone else does not. Rich people deserve to control the world, everyone else does not.
Explode the myth of free will among the American public, and you will destroy the foundation for the Republicans’ "survival of the fittest" ideology. As we cling to the myth of free will, we continue to give the Republican Party an advantage that is very difficult, if not impossible, to overcome.
Back to the science. Physics refutes free will. Biology refutes free will. Psychology refutes free will. Neuroscience refutes free will. We can either begin to shape our world according to our best science and reasoning, or we can continue to let the world be run by people who believe the world is just under 6,000 years old, the first people were a couple named Adam and Eve, and global warming is a huge conspiracy.
By now someone will say; "If we don’t have free will, we have no choice whether or not to refute the notion of free will and thereby set the stage for bringing down the Republican ideology and the Republican Party." Well, yes and no. I have been determined by the causal past to write and post this diary. You have similarly been determined to read it. You will either be determined to understand and appreciate its message or you won’t. If you are, you may be determined to begin taking action on it. If you and many other people take action on it, it is very likely that the "dog eat dog," "everyone for himself," "pull yourselves up from your bootstraps" Republican ideology that is completely dependent upon the myth of free will will crumble. When that happens, the Republican Party will crumble.
To destroy a structure, it is usually best to destroy its foundation. The foundation for the Republican Party and its ideology is the myth of free will. It’s time we set our eyes on the prize, and discredit Republican thinking at its very core by exploding the myth of free will.
