I'm hearing from wingnuts and other consumers of wingnut media about House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her supposed procurement of almost $3000 of flowers. Googling "pelosi flowers" brings back linkage from Politico, Smallgovtimes.com, and various other places on the Internet where a story such as that would likely just explode.
But something occurred to me and closer examination of the stories and their various retellings didn't even begin to show any amount of investigation whatsoever, so I did a very little digging.
Turns out that the Speaker of the House oversees House functions, to include the Chief Administrative Officer of the House. According to Wikipedia, the CAO is in charge of "human resources, information resources, payroll, finance, procurement, and other business services" as regards the House of Representatives.
To the extent that the House gets loaded up with flowers and other decorations, is it possible that flower-buying is a routine piece of House business that is getting ascribed to Pelosi personally? Any one know if this is closer to the truth than the "Pelosi, Mad Flower Fetishist" meme that the Hannitized are trying to push?
