In Matthew 25: 14-30, Jesus tells the parable of the talents. In short form, the parable discusses a master who gives varying amounts of money to servants. Two servants invest the money and get a good return. Another servant plays it safe, and just buries the money.
When the master returns, the two servants who invested the money and got a good return are rewarded. The servant who conserved the money and played it safe gets severely dumped on.
The master says, to the two servants who invested and returned good money, "Well done, O good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things."
In 2008, we in the progressive Democratic movement gave a huge mass of talents to the Senate Democrats. We said, "We have given to you, our servants, a mass of talents. Go and do well with them. In two years, we will determine what the return has been on our hard labor of amassing talents."
Half-way through the year, we see that the Senate Democrats have buried our valuable talents in the ground. They have done nothing with our hard work. At November, 2010, will they be rewarded with more talents?
Or will they be turned out to the wilderness of more losses?
When a group is given a great majority, they must use that majority to accomplish the goals of the group. And if the other side uses tricks, false methods, and abuses the rules, the rules must be changed.
41 cannot be allowed to stop 59 from accomplishing things.
Here is the point of this little excursion into biblical thought: If the Senate Democrats cannot do what is needed to be done with the rules as they stand, it is time to change the rules.
It's time to go nuclear, folks.
