I got ANOTHER email from FDL action today, asking me to sign a petition asking the House NOT to pass the senate bill. I'm startng to think FDL is a conservative blog disguised as a progressive activism netroots blog, going incognito and throwing wrenches in our spokes at every chance they get. I sent them this email in response. More below the fold.
Dear Jane Hamsher/Michael Whitney,
You FDL loons are SCREWING the progressive movement, and have been continually doing so since Hamsher sided with the bill-killers on FOX and friends. Stop. Seriously. You are NOT fucking helping anyone except the far right.
Can't you see past your short-sightedness? Can't you think outside of a 12-hour window, ever? Ever stop to consider the irreperable political fallout if the Dems fail on what Obama called his "key domestic initiative" upon which he said he would "stake the presidency?"
If the House kills the senate bill, HCR is dead until at LEAST 2012. Possibly 2020, if you FDL folks have your way and get another George W. elected to reign in favor of the corporations and against the populace for another 8 years. The House can just as easily pass the senate bill, and have the senate fix everything in reconciliation. 50 votes plus Biden, and we can have a bill that forces the private insurers to compete with a public option, or have a Medicare buy-in for all, which would be the onset of single payer.
So no, I'm not signing your goddamn petition. I'm not siding with the Republicans, like Hamsher is doing and has been doing. I'm not willing to kill the progressive cause with useless and deconstructive bitching and moaning against the president we elected to handle all of the major crises brought on by 8 years of failed REPUBLICAN policy. I'm not giving up on the guy I worked hard to elect because a bunch of corporate whores refuse to sign their names to anything that might make him look good, no matter how much it may help Americans.
Gorw up, FDL. I've had enough of your bitching. I'm going to fight the right. I'm going to call my arch-conservative congressmen and senators EVERY DAY. I'm going to support this administration. If you want to sit on the sidelines and root for failure like Rushbo and his dittoheads, you're more than welcome to do so. But stop calling yourselves "progressives" if you're in lock-step with the folks who are against progress.
Love,
FC&B
Update: While I've hated what they've been doing for awhile and remained on the mailing list to keep tabs on what the FDL folks were up to, I've taken the advice of some of the commenters and just chosen to ignore Jane's teabagger trollery altogether by unsubscribing. But thanks for all the discussion anyhow. Also, HRing someone because you don't like their opinion is a REAL grownup thing to do. Stay classy, Hamsherites.
