Brit Hume, as always, continues to show the world what kind of narrow mind he has:
In short, here is his message(regarding Tiger Woods):
"He's said to be a Buddhist," Hume said. "I don't think that faith offers the kind of forgiveness and redemption that is offered by the Christian faith. ... Tiger, turn to the Christian faith and you can make a total recovery."
Once again, the religious right inserts their thoroughly unwelcomed holier-than-thou judgement. As is par for the course, the narrow minded bloggers of Wiz Bang give us what I consider a racist's take on Brit's musings:
I still assert that Christianity is superior in every respect. Islam is a religion of death that leads straight to hell. Christians convince people to act of their own free will. We do not tell people to 'convert or die.'
Jeff Blogworthy
and here's another gem:
Liberals have no problem with religion in general and christianity in specific when they are 'using' it.
Liberals are only offended by religion when it offers no political return.
LiberalNitemare
As always, it's not the religion that is to blame here but the ignorance of those who feel they've "interpreted" it properly. Hume is no more a Christian than David Koresh was. Like many on the far right, they've confused their faith with their prejudices and insecurities. It's easy to judge a Muslim, Buddhist or Jew when you feel it is your duty to convince them how inferior their religion is.
Lets face it. It's Fox News, so it's no surprise. But what this guy said is grotesque. If it were any other network he'd be getting the kind of criticism due for someone who makes such an outrageous and religiously intolerant claim. But half the country is still seduced by this pathetic network and therefore looks at this mindset as the norm.
So, for the record, Brit. ANYONE can find redemption in their lives no matter their religion, lack thereof or despite it. It's apparent you have little understanding of Buddhism - so much so that making this claim for you SHOULD be embarrassing but obviously is not.
The right is worried this will become an issue with Brit and hope it flies under the radar. I suggest we give it a boost of fuel.
UPDATE: A Jeff Blogworthy response (WizBang commenter above who made the moronic "convert or die" statement) to this discussion:
Proud to be quoted. I guarantee that Brit Hume knows more about Buddhism than you know about Christianity. Your twisting of Brit's quote itself shows your ignorance.
The concept of 'redemption' is uniquely Christian. To redeem means 'to recover by payment.' Christ saves us from our sin by making the payment for our sin Himself. We accept His sacrifice by faith. That is redemption. It is Christian jargon. Buddhists do not seek redemption and it has no correlate in the religion. Therefore your title is correct by definition.
For clarity: Brit's quote is verbatim - and his video is above to prove it. So much for twisting anything.
