"Terrorism is the enemy of our generation, and we must prevail..."
President Bill Clinton, 1996, upon signing an anti-terrorism bill.
Next time some wingnut says Clinton was weak on terrorism...
Quote a Republican...
Defense Secy William Cohen for Bill Clinton
[the goal of the strikes was to disrupt and attempt to destroy the suspected training and support facilities used to train] hundreds, if not thousands, of terrorists...But our message is clear. There will be no sanctuary for terrorists and no limit to our resolve to defend American citizens and our interests -- our ideals of democracy and law -- against these cowardly attacks."
Jessie Helms:
[President Bill Clinton's decision Thursday to order military strikes against alleged terrorist bases in Afghanistan and Sudan] were clearly designed to strike at the heart of a terrorist network that has the blood of American citizens on its hands, and which was planning further attacks on U.S. nationals.
He added:
Terrorists around the world will realize that America's differences end at the water's edge, and that the United States' political leadership always has, and always will stand united in the face of international terrorism.
Newt Gingrich:
"Just a few days ago in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam, we saw what happens when people who hate America and hate freedom decide to kill Americans ... They did so in a way in which we have to respond.
Orin Hatch:
...frankly I commend him for doing it....It's an appropriate foreign policy response to terrorism at an appropriate time having obtained appropriate evidence and knowledge to justify the action.
Remind them what Pete King, of NY said:
At a time like this, the Republicans have to support the president. It would be dangerous for the country to speculate publicly at a time like this.
And Dick Army:
The United States has an absolute duty to attack terrorism where it lives and breeds, in order to prevent future attacks on American citizens around the world. The American people stand united in the face of terrorism.
Alfonse D'Amato (remember him?)
Terrorists are roaming the world almost at abandon. America is right to seek them out and destroy them wherever they try to hide. The action was bold and appropriate.
