"My mother, Catherine Eugenia 'Jean' Finnegan Biden, passed away peacefully today at our home in Wilmington, Delaware, surrounded by her children, her grandchildren, her great-grandchildren and many loved ones. At 92, she was the center of our family and taught all of her children that family is to be treasured, loyalty is paramount and faith will guide you through the tough times. She believed in us, and because of that, we believed in ourselves. Together with my father, her husband of 61 years who passed away in 2002, we learned the dignity of hard work and that you are defined by your sense of honor. Her strength, which was immeasurable, will live on in all of us."
Catherine Eugenia "Jean" Finnegan was born in 1918.
May you rest in peace Catherine Eugenia "Jean" Finnegan Biden.
I will update as more information becomes available.

When Joe Biden spoke at the DNC on August 27th, he gave a shout-out to his mom: "I thank God and I'm grateful that my mom Katherine Eugenia Finnegan Biden is here tonight. Mom, I love ya!" The crowd went wild and Jean appeared to get teary. He went on to recall that "As a child I stuttered and she lovingly would look at me and tell me 'Joey, it's because you're so bright you can't get the thoughts out quickly enough.' When I wasn't as well-dressed as the other kids she would look at me and say 'Joey, oh, you're so handsome, honey, you're so handsome.' And when I got knocked down by guys bigger than me, and this is the God's truth, she sent me back out and said 'Bloody their nose so you can walk down the street the next day!'" Out in the audience, Jean Biden could be seen mouthing "That's true."
How proud she must have been!
From this entry in Wikipedia it is easy to see that Mrs. Biden was a woman who had faced some adversity in her life. I am so thankful that she was able to live to see her son become Vice President of the United States.
Biden's father had been very well-off earlier in his life, but had suffered several business reverses by the time Biden was born,[7] and for several years the family had to live with Biden's maternal grandparents, the Finnegans.[7] When the Scranton area went into economic decline during the 1950s, Biden's father could not find enough work.[8] In 1953 the Biden family moved to an apartment in Claymont, Delaware, where they lived for a few years before moving to a house in Wilmington, Delaware.[7] Joe Biden Sr. then did better as a used car salesman, and the family's circumstances were middle class.[7][8][9]
