Is The Greatest Generation undoing thier greatest legacies?
My Grandparents emmigrated through Ellis Island, lived through a depression, won a World War, and fought to create a vibrant middle class. However, what legacy will they leave thier great grandchildren?
There was a time in America when we had no Federal minumum wage. There was a time when there was no Social Security. There was a time in America when there was no Medicare. No FDA. No FHA. No GI Bill. No VA. No major labor unions. We can thank our seniors and thier elders for holding fast to the ideals which made these accomplishments possible. Now I see the senior vote breaking hard and fast toward a GOP that is committed to reducing or in many cases repealing these great milestones of legislative and organizational achievement they created!
What legacy are seniors leaving?
Have seniors forgotten why they fought so hard?
Do seniors realize that one day thier Great Grandchildren could be living in an America without a minimum wage? An America with no publicly funded education? An America with a privatized Social Security or NO Social Security? This list could go on and on and on.
If you have Grandparents I think it would be a good time to reach out to them and remind them of thier legacy. Remind them that conservatives really don't like thier legacy.
Ask your Grandparents if Republicans today would support a new federal tax designed to create a senior citizen retirement fund managed by government beaurocrats? Or would Republicans say "If you haven't saved enough by retirement then you were irresponsible"
Ask your Grandparents if they think Republicans today would propose, support and enact a single payer government health care system designed to insure seniors? Or do they think Republicans would opposed such a program?
Ask your Grandparents to fully examine the candidates before voting. Take emotion out of it and think of thier legacy.
