I am pretty ticked off today after reading this.
If Sheheen loses three weeks and three days from now, S.C. Democrats face the stark prospect of being swept completely out of statewide office for the first time since Reconstruction.
"There is a sense of urgency, definitely," said state Rep. Bakari Sellers, D-Bamberg. "We don’t want to be here on Nov. 3 saying what we should have done."
Concerned about that prospect, Sellers has been urging locally elected Democrats to mobilize their voters. Democratic voters will have to show up at the polls in massive numbers Nov. 2 in order for their party to have a chance at winning.
Gee, guess who has been beating the drum about this FACT since 2008? You're reading his blog. So, now that it's less than a month from voting, it becomes a news story. More so, people wait for it to be told by corporate media to wipe the sleep out their eyes. And you all wonder why Dems lose here. They wait for truth to vindicated by other people - people who aren't even loyal to Dems in the state.
Concerned? Hell, people here should have been yelling loud and clear about it a long time ago. Dems who say they are for the working people of this state should have just been balls to the wall about the truth. People need to hear that if they vote for the GOP this year, there will be no Dem Party in the state. There will be gerrymandering like you've never seen before.
I am sick and tired of having our asses handed to us when we have the most proficient, most educated, most constructed, most determined policies and plans geared to getting South Carolina moving out of the gutter of Confederate dress-up days, faux tea party revolts put on by right-wing think tanks and pundits and constant stupidity - making us the point of embarrassment in the country.
If Democrats fail to win the governor’s seat, they will have virtually no say in how the GOP-controlled Legislature redraws congressional and legislative district lines in 2011.
Republican operatives in the state have made no bones about their party’s redistricting plans for 2011 — to draw Democrats out of existence. Training on the issue has been under way for state parties through the Republican National Committee for the better part of a year.
You all got that? Tired of playing nicey-nice to your Republican neighbor while getting your Party erased from the state? Tired of standing back without a backbone, hoping for them to take care of you if you stay quiet. How about the notion of getting fired? Look, a lot of Dems that live here are retired and do not work, so why be afraid to speak out against such outwardly disrespect of the Party you support? The others that do work should know there are laws on their side that protect them from such actions.
If Republicans win, there will be no Vida Miller. Trust me. Tom Swatzel is not your friend, no matter how much ass you kiss. He has an agenda. His purpose is to put candidates in power that support a slanted right-wing view. Being a kiss-ass will not change his view or make him say aw, shucks I'll stop doing bad things to you Dems right this minute.
Oh, I don't want to hear or see the first bit of complaining from Dems who 1)do not fight outwardly against this and 2) don't vote at all. Your inaction paved the way for the Republicans to dominate the rest of us.
I really hope you all pay close attention to the bold print. When you wake up the morning after election day, get your coffee and paper or tune in the Web for your news, be sure to realize that when they say GOP wins, it means it's a win for them, a loss for ALL DEMS - ALL PEOPLE in this state.
You ever hear about being snuffed out? That big elephant is coming... And they are not saving donkeys on the way to the top.
As for the general election campaign, Bob Sheheen said: "He’s doing better than he was doing 60 days ago, and it’s closer than it’s ever been. ... You can’t (overestimate the value of) momentum."
Why? He put out an ad attacking Nikki Haley on truth and transparency. The fluff ads were NOT doing it. It took Sheheen calling out Shady Haley on her taxes to get the momentum to turn.
I feel it's a little too late. Should of done that a long time ago. Should of recognized the "urgency" a long time ago.
