You know those high speed trains they have in Yurp and China and such? We don't have that.
You know those really nice autobahn's they have in Germany that are banked for safe high speed travel and are always kept in a high state of repair? We don't have that.
In fact, we don't have much of any kind of new transportation, bridges, road maintenance, etc.
You know those floods we keep having every year? The Dutch use a series of levee's to keep water out of their cities. We use sandbag's after the fact and they usually don't work very well.
You know what we don't have here? A viable and renewable infrastructure. Why?
Well, because our money goes to the Defense Department for ever-increasing war mongering and regime change. Our money goes to making sure corporations have everything they could possibly need to outsource jobs from America to third world countries where labor is cheap and unregulated (yes! even more unregulated than here in the US if you can believe that after the Reagan Revolution - gag) and our money goes to political ads telling you how we need to stop spending money!
Is our country, the people who live in it and the people running it insane or on drugs? Well, some of them are insane, but most are beyond insane due to greed. Greed for themselves instead of caring for providing for the common good. Provide For The Common Good. Now there are some words that one can find in our very Constitution that we no longer seem to consider to be important, or in Republican world, even relevant. Providing for the uncommon rich is their mantra. At the "commoners" expense, of course.
Obama renews call to fix infrastructure
President Obama called on lawmakers Monday to back an ambitious initiative to modernize the nation's crumbling roads, railways and airports, saying the strategy would not only improve the economy in the long run but also create good jobs now.
On the heels of a report last week showing the jobless rate stuck at 9.6 percent, Obama touted his infrastructure plan as the ideal antidote, noting that unemployment is particularly high in the construction trades.
"Nearly one in five construction workers is still unemployed and needs a job. And that makes absolutely no sense when so much of America needs rebuilding," Obama told reporters in the Rose Garden.
"Investing in infrastructure is something members of both political parties have always supported," Obama said. "There's no reason why we can't do this. This is work that needs to be done. There are workers who can do it. All we need is the political will."
Jobs? What a quaint provision in the President's speech.
The Rose Garden statement capped a series of White House efforts intended to highlight Obama's infrastructure initiative, unveiled a month ago as the White House came under increasing pressure to address unemployment before the Nov. 2 midterm elections. The proposal would create an infrastructure bank to prioritize projects of national importance and fund it with $50 billion generated by eliminating certain tax benefits for oil and gas companies.
Also Monday, the Treasury Department and Council of Economic Advisers released a report concluding that this is the "optimal time" to invest in public works projects, not only because of the high jobless rate but also because of low prices in the construction sector. Obama also met with a bipartisan group of mayors, governors and transportation officials, all eager to see money flow to neglected projects.
Of course, you know this cannot be accomplished! America has DEBT! All of a sudden, Our National Debt has somehow become more important than Bush's wars and pallets of disappearing money. How can that be? Why, just two short years ago, the Federal Government spending money on nefarious ends was so "IN." All of a sudden, the Federal Government spending money on creating jobs and fixing our crumbling and antiquated infrastructure is so "OUT."
We need a new word for hypocrisy. That word no longer sounds nearly abominable enough to describe the American right, whom we all know are always, always wrong.
Please, take the time to call and write YOUR Congressional Representatives and let them know that America is becoming that third world country we always hear about and that it is time to spend our money on US, We The People. Our money going to create jobs for Our people and to fix and renew Our country. NOW!
