Dear Friends,
For several years now on DailyKos I have both learned about and shared in our effort to elect effective new leaders to vital posts throughout our country. And now, as part of this strategy to elect not only "more" but also new and better Democrats, I am running for Mayor of Oakland, California.
Today I received a remarkable endorsement from the Oakland Tribune, the major local daily newspaper, which says:
"Kaplan stands out as the candidate who best blends intellect, fresh ideas, an ability to work with diverse groups, a clear understanding of city issues and the passion and communication skills needed at Oakland's helm."
More after the fold...
The Oakland Tribune's endorsement goes on to say:
"She has a vision for what Oakland could be that includes retail businesses along major transportation corridors to create a more environmentally friendly city where more residents bike or take public transportation. She wants to transform the ghost town near the Coliseum into a retail and entertainment district..... Oakland deserves better. It's time for new leadership, for the next generation to take the helm and bring fresh ideas. That's why we're turning to Kaplan."
I know that we can, and must, take action now to build a healthier future: economically, environmentally, and in terms of restoring public safety and trust in our government. Oakland needs leadership that is both creative and effective, which promotes expanding economic opportunity and respectfully works with all stakeholders in our community. We can rebuild our economy, support local business, and use local hiring policies to ensure that economic benefits return to our community. I know that these goals are possible -- and deserve dedicated effort.
I am pleased to be endorsed by the East Bay Young Democrats, the California Nurses Association, Black Women Organized for Political Action, and the Sierra Club, among others.
I invite you to join this vital effort!
