It seems that Democrats believe they've finally figured out a winning message.
It goes like this according to Majority Whip James Clyburn, please get your ass to the polls, please vote Democratic and if you do, we'll maybe, possibly, try to do something about the healthcare (or is it health insurance) bill we passed. We might even get back to the public option.
Look, I'm all for doing everything to GOTV as Crashing Vor urges. I'll probably be the first at my poll on November 2nd, as I usually am. But I draw the line at being manipulated by the political establishment, over and over and over.
I don't believe, you of course, are free to draw your own conclusions, even if Democrats survive with slim majorities on both houses, that they will "fix" the PPACA. Ain't happening, not with employment closing in at 10%--or higher.
This new, winning message isn't just James Clyburn, this morning, the top story in Politco is more of the same.
Nervous Democrats are grasping for a new message on their party’s health care reform bill: Give us another shot, and we’ll get it right this time.
And we'll get it right this time. How sad.
It strikes me that we're moving into the theater of the desperate and the absurd.
Did anyone notice in Harry Reid's opening statement the other night, he didn't even mention health insurance reform. You don't have to listen to Sharon, Harry went first. Not one word.
But, sure as night follows day, when if Harry gets back to D.C., he's going to pass the Public Option, he's going to get us that vote he promised.
So here you have the majority leader of the U.S. Senate not even reminding voters of the much heralded health insurance reform, but others pleading for weary and scarred Democrats to get out and vote, by promising to fix their botched effort.
I don't buy it, nor should you.
Yes, of course GOTV, get your ass to the polls, get your neighbors to the polls, but for the love of Jesus, don't vote expecting that Dems will actually do anything for healthcare.
Here, in my opinion, is the tragic take home message as voters head to the polls. On the taxpayer handout to Wall Street, on the spreading foreclosure scandal and on the truly ignoble handout to the health insurance corporations.
Institutions engaged in grossly antisocial behavior, the banks, the mortgage lenders, the insurance corporations, are supported by a government and legislative process that continues to fail us at every turn.
The sad reality is that this dreadful process seems likely to get worse before it gets better. In all likelihood, we are witnessing the collapse of the American Empire. And on the subject of the collapsing American empire, do yourself a favor and read whatGlenn Greenwald has to say. We will all be worse off than our parents. Republicans are primarily to blame for this catastrophe, but Democrats have failed us miserably as well.
And I'm sick of being lied to--by all of them.
