Recently we explored how the NRA is backing Dems in certain races. I figured I'd look into my state (Michigan) and see what they have to say. I won't be basing my vote on what the NRA says, by the way.
Governor:
Snyder (R) is rated with a ? which the NRA explains as meaning that the candidate wouldn't even answer the survey submitted so they're probably hostile to the notion of RKBA. Virg is given an F. Oh well, still voting for him over Snyder. Still makes ya wonder what they base this on exactly since I'm not finding anything about how they graded him an F.
House of Reps:
District 1 (my district):
Benishek (R) was given an AQ which means that his answers on the survey were great but there's nothing else to judge him on. McDowell (D) (the guy I'd be voting for anyway) is graded an A and they explain why they're endorsing a Democrat. Anyone else find that funny? Here's why:
BATFE Reform -- Supports reforming the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE)
Opposes Clinton Gun -- Opposes reenacting the Clinton gun and magazine ban
National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity -- Supports National Right-to-Carry reciprocity
Hunting Heritage -- Believes sportsmen should have access to federally-owned or administered lands for hunting, fishing, trapping and recreational shooting
Youth Hunting -- Voted for legislation removing barriers to youth participation in our hunting heritage
Disaster Recovery Personal Protection -- Voted for a bill that prohibits gun confiscation during states of emergency as happened after Hurricane Katrina
Castle Doctrine -- Voted for the "Castle Doctrine" legislation to restore the right to law-abiding citizens to self-defense in persons home and property
Pro-gun Reforms -- Voted for pro-gun reform to repeal unnecessary post purchase inspections of hand guns
The other House races are all pro-R. Well, except for District 15.
Steele (R) is rated AQ (remember what that was from above?) but Dingell (D) is rated A+ and again, they explain why:
Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act -- Cosponsored and voted for the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act that prevents attempts to bankrupt the American gun industry through bogus lawsuits
District of Columbia Personal Protection Act -- Cosponsored and voted for the Second Amendment Enforcement Act and District of Columbia Personal Protection Act that would repeal the D.C. gun ban/registration statute and restore the right of self-defense to law-abiding residents of our nation's capital
Heller Case -- Signed the pro-gun congressional "friend of the court" brief in the 2008 Heller case supporting the Second Amendment as an individual right and striking down the gun ban in our nation's capital
McDonald Case -- Signed the pro-gun congressional "friend of the court" brief in the McDonald case supporting the position that the Second Amendment guarantees a fundamental right that protects all Americans
Holder Letter -- Signed the letter to Attorney General Eric Holder with 64 other House Democrats expressing opposition to the reenactment of the failed 1994 Clinton ban on semi-automatic firearms and ammunition magazines
BATFE Reform -- Cosponsored and voted for legislation to force much-needed reform of the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE)
Right-to-Carry Reciprocity -- Cosponsored the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act that would extend federal protection of state right to carry licenses and permits across the country
Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act -- Cosponsored and voted for the Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act that prohibits gun confiscation during states of emergency as happened after Hurricane Katrina
Veterans' Heritage Firearms Act -- Cosponsored the Veterans' Heritage Firearms Act that would provide an amnesty period during which veterans and their family members could register firearms acquired overseas between 1934 and 1968 without fear of prosecution
Firearms Interstate Commerce Reform Act -- Cosponsored the Firearms Interstate Commerce Reform Act that would allow interstate sale of handguns subject to NICS
Protecting Gun Owners in Bankruptcy Act -- Voted for the Protecting Gun Owners in Bankruptcy Act, which would ensure that a person who filed for bankruptcy would not lose their firearms, thereby maintaining the fundamental right to self-defense
Right-to-Carry in Parks -- Voted last year for allowing carry license or permit holders to carry and transport firearms for self-defense in national parks and wildlife refuges
Hunting Heritage -- Voted to protect hunting, fishing, trapping and recreational shooting on public land managed by the Bureau of Land Management
Throughout the state there are a sprinkling of other Dem endorsements but only about 4 or 5. I wish I could tell if this is due to the fact that they're not very pro-gun or because they're Dems.
