Through the efforts of many local educators, laborers, business owners, and college students, collectively known as the Knox County Progressives, "A More Perfect Union" Rally has been organized and will be held in Standish Park, Galesburg, Illinois on Saturday, October 23rd from 10:30 a.m. to Noon. (In case of rain, the event will be moved to the Galesburg Community Center at 150 Simmons St.)
This rally is a celebration of progressive principles as articulated in our country’s laws and as practiced by its most loyal and patriotic citizens over its 234 year history. Its speakers, who represent people from many sectors of our community, will give informative (yet succinct) presentations on the some of the most important policies and programs that affect us all—including, social security, health care, education, social justice, and taxation. All speakers will describe how these essential elements in our collective history can be reaffirmed, reinvigorated, and improved to make America stronger as we face continuing challenges and move forward in this young Century.
Everyone is welcome to the rally as the organizers welcome and cherish the rich diversity that exists in our community. They deeply respect the sacrifices that progressives have made in our country’s history to make our lives healthier, our communities more hospitable, and our relationships more egalitarian. They recognize that our near (and far) future depends on the work and contributions made by all people.
The rally will be a family friendly event as children will have an area where they can play. Coffee (but not tea) as well as cider and cookies will be served as well. For people who need transportation to the rally, please call 309-343-6707.
