Headline of the Year-
A Pre-Post-Mortem on Anticipated Democratic Losses
Now read it slowly. Breathe in (you're going to need the oxygen), breathe out.
Are there any more questions as to why the American populace is butt ignorant?
You can read Tapper's noxious post if you want (forewarned- Evan Bayh's opinions take up half of it), but I'd advise to skip it. The headline says it all.
This morning the hourly cable "repeater" was the non story that Juan Williams got canned for having a conflict of interest with his employer, NPR. He dissed Muslims, and validated Bill O'Reilly's bigoted comments on The View. Oh well, so sad, move along, right? Nope. Every. Hour. All. Day.
During hour whothefuckknows of my listening to MSNBC, I hear a talker going over the talking points about "How Dems Suck©". Numero uno? No messaging on how great the Health Care Reform Bill really was.
Really Bobblehead? It is a good program? There are things that will help Americans in it? Then why the HELL haven't the cablers, journalists, print media or ANYONE spent as much time on the good things the Obama Administration have done as they are on what basically comes down to a human resources kerfluffle that bears absolutely no weight on any human being's life other than Juan Williams and his family (and even that's moot, he's set for at least 3 years).
In my head, I've been calling it "Media Melodrama", the sick, perverted cousin of "If it bleeds, it leads". But this time around they are choking off the news that we (and those not as tuned in) need to make informed decisions just to keep on living. Two polls come out on Monday, the traditional media picks the one with the most "conflict" to cover, the one that will elicit the most hand wringing and navel gazing. Unemployment numbers stagnant in the country? Hey, but it's down in 23 states! Poll says 37% of the populace want the Health Care bill repealed? Whoa, 36% want it expanded!!
In context (and against Jake's meme that we're DOOMED), Newsweek came out with a poll today that puts the Democratic Party and our President in a much better position. All I heard was that the President had hit the floor.
We may be doomed, we may never make it out of this house of mirrors, but if that happens, it will be people who write headlines like "A Pre-Post-Mortem on Anticipated Democratic Losses" who have put the cement boots on us, and eventually, it will take them down too.
