Guns are dangerous and the idea of safe gun ownership is a logical fallacy. With gun violence in America at record highs how anyone could assume otherwise is beyond me. The facts are clear and are substantiated by numerous non-partisan neutral studies that show it is impossible to own let alone operate a gun in a safe manner.
RKBA is a DKos group of second amendment supporters who also have progressive and liberal values. We don't think that being a liberal means one has to be anti-gun. Some of us are extreme in our second amendment views (no licensing, no restrictions on small arms) and some of us are more moderate (licensing, restrictions on small arms.) Moderate or extreme, we hold one common belief: more gun control equals lost elections. We don't want a repeat of 1994. We are an inclusive group: if you see the Second Amendment as safeguarding our right to keep and bear arms individually, then come join us in our conversation. If you are against the right to keep and bear arms, come join our conversation. We look forward to seeing you, as long as you engage in a civil discussion.
RKBA stands for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.
I do my best to avoid your diaries but I can no longer sit idly by and not refute the fear mongering, immature, inane and bogus anecdotes, statistics and assertions that get tossed about as fact. Don't you understand that owning a gun increases the likelihood that you are going to kill yourself and that if you didn't have that gun you wouldn't commit suicide? The suicide rate in our country has nothing to do with the lack of affordable mental health care, rather it is the unfettered accessibility of guns and their ease of use that causes the severely depressed and mentally unstable to want to end their lives.
I am so sick of your strawmen, your damnable lies and claims of wanting to have an open and honest discussion about firearms because as soon as someone contradicts or doesn't fall in line with your precious and vapid points of view your posse arrives to hide rate the dissenters and then you recommend each other like a bunch of bullying NASCAR loving rednecks, talk about puerile adolescent behavior.
There hasn't been a single diary of yours where any of your posters and commentors don't proudly proclaim their sterling safety record with comments like "none of my guns have killed anybody" or statements that they are expert marksmen and keep all of their guns stored in a safe manner. Safe gun storage, yeah right, just having a gun safe isn't safe. Let's face the facts of the matter, guns are designed for nothing more than the killing innocent human beings. How can anyone with even a modicum of morality keep such an object, even in a safe? I mean what if someone breaks into your house and they just happen to be carrying a portable oxy-acetylene welder (with a cutting torch) and are able to get your safe open and steal your oh so necessary, fetish inspired, 2nd Amendment protected guns that aren’t registered and don’t have ballistic finger printing technology? What then, huh? Yeah, what are you little dicked, low testosterone guys and penis envying women going to do about that?
We’ve got a serious problem with gun violence and it is perpetrated by you “law abiding citizens” thanks to your pro-proliferation mentality to have every man woman and child packing heat in our schools. What about my rights to live free from fear? What about my rights to not have my family jeopardized by your selfish actions and total disregard for public safety? What about my rights to not have to worry about the hundreds of thousands of armed crazies walking around with concealed machine guns ready to snap and fulfill their Rambo/Dirty Harry, Technicolor, rage filled vigilante fantasies of pulling our their six gun and murdering the bad guys?
No what we need to have are some really sensible gun laws and don’t talk to me about enforcing the ones on the books, that argument is so tired and worn out because it is obvious to those of us who want to live in a more civilised society that 1) more guns equals more crime and 2) since the laws on the books are so ineffective at preventing criminal behavior we need new laws that will restrict legal gun ownership and thereby prevent people from becoming criminals.
The time has come to close the gun show parking lot private citizen sales loop hole because it's the loop hole that is putting guns in the hands of criminals. The time is now to renew the assault weapon, scary black gun ban because every rational progressive that is committed to the betterment of society (unlike you gun loving wingnut shills for the NRA) knows that bayonet lugs, flash suppressors, collapsible stocks and 30 round clips increase the inherent evilness of any firearm. The time is now to register all firearms so we can know who owns them, that way when your safely stored firearm is stolen it can traced and you, the incompetent gun owner can be prosecuted for allowing someone to steal it from you. I know, I know, I know, now it is time to trot out the equally worn out and whiny meme that registration leads to confiscation...bullshit. You can't point to a single instance where any of our our local or federal law enforcement officers have ever done anything like that.
You RKBAer's need to wake up and realize that I and other real progressives wade into the putrid cesspool of your rightwing RKBA talking points diaries in order to enlighten you. To show you the truth about guns and gun ownership. That gun ownership is incompatible with living in a civilised society, that our obsession with guns is based in racism, that gun ownership is due to having a small penis and that penises and sex are icky which is why we use that very mature and accurate analogy, that gun ownership is a disease and should be eradicated, that guns are a cowards choice for a weapon, that having all these guns is like living in a police state, that guns are a symbol of our hatred for each other, that guns make people do bad things and guns turn people into criminals and that gun use should be limited to the military and law enforcement because they are the only ones who can keep us safe. If only you could see that we are looking out for your best interests because in reality you are children and we the enlightened must take whatever steps are necessary to protect you from yourself.
But most importantly we need to realize that the 2nd Amendment is an archaic and poorly worded amendment that has no relevance to our day and time because the old slave owning men who wrote it could never have envisioned machine guns and other such weapons of mass destruction. In closing I want to say that I fully support the 2nd Amendment and your “right” to keep and bear arms even if the Heller decision is nothing but the result of judicial activism.
