With 7 days to go until the midterm elections, I wish I felt confident that, when all is said and done, my party will control the House. Really, there's nothing I wouldn't give to have the polls pump up my political fantasy on a daily basis, reaffirming the notion that electoral victory is well within sight.
I wish I could feel the thrill of knowing, just knowing, that in a mere 7 days, power will be yanked from a party who, I honestly believe, is filled with communist-socialist-Marxist pigs who are plotting to destroy America.
I wish I were a Republican.
I wish I believed that global warming was a myth. That being gay is comparable to being an alcoholic, and that same sex couples should be treated like second-class citizens.
I wish I believed that government shouldn't prevent restaurants from discriminating on the basis of race. That the Civil Rights Act of 1964 went too far.
I wish I believed that every person in this country is not deserving of affordable healthcare. That the interests of big corporations should come before the interests of the middle class.
But I don't.
I can't.
You see, in 7 days, it may very well feel good to be a Republican. But that doesn't mean it's right to be a Republican, because winning an election doesn't mean you're on the right side of history.
A Republican takeover is not inevitable. Not even close. We have a week to show the American people that we have a choice in this election: either we fall deeper into the hole that was dug during the last administration, or we move this country forward.
Get out the vote.
