We all see the world differently.
I use photography to define my very personal world. I like to think that my pictures define who and what I am.
I see the world from one particular angle, that is true. But I like to believe that I am open minded and am willing to see the world from the angle that you use to define yours.
This is not easy today when the world is being defined with distortions and half truths, and sometimes, out and out lies.
The end justifies the means, you see. So anything goes.
As an educator, I prided myself on having an open mind. I believed that I was willing to walk around in someone else’s shoes to see exactly how tight the shoes and how badly they hurt the feet.
I prided myself on open mindedness over logic. All truths were in shades of grey, not black and white. But today’s world is different.
In the world of today, there is a Great Truth in some people’s minds and if you don’t get it, it is their duty to save you by lying, cheating, bribing or whatever they have to do, even stomping a young girls head into the ground, to save you.
And it doesn’t matter if you choose not to be saved. We will reinterpret the constitution, if necessary, to save you.
If the constitution demands the separation of church and state, we will say it makes a case for joining church and state (as long as its my church and my state).
If we are in a recession today because of the lack of financial oversight, we will say that what we need is less not more oversight.
We can complain about the deficit while demanding tax cuts that increase the deficit and never blink or bat an eye.
If we have no jobs because of companies shipping them overseas, we cry out that we can create more jobs by giving tax breaks to companies who ship jobs over seas!
Lewis Carroll’s Alice summed it up quite well. She said, “If I had a world of my own, everything would be nonsense. Nothing would be what it is because everything would be what it isn't. And contrary-wise; what it is it wouldn't be, and what it wouldn't be, it would. You see?”
Yes, Alice, I think I do see. Do you all?
